Study Islam and you will realize that this question is the ultimate question. Its the period of the exclaimation point.

Fatwa's are religious decrees, and are issued by all Islamic clergy. Its important to understand this concept because the purpose of fatwas is to establish a religious rule or edict for things happing in the current day.

So for example, if woman in a community begin wearing a new fashion, like high boots for example, that the clergy find "un-islamic" or "haram" they will issue a fatwa saying not to wear these high boots.

We all know about the death fatwas. Death Fatwas were issued against Salaman Rushdie for writing his book. Slander of Islam are the most agregious acts and this is why cartoonists or anyone else who says things Muslims dont like, find themselves running from these fatwas.

If Bin Laden's acts or any other terrorist or beheader's acts were against Islam, we should expect literally millions of death fatwas. NOT ONE AGAINST BIN LADEN EXISTS.

ALSO, Let me again be very specific in anticipation of apologist spin. The closest Fatwa in existance to BIN LADEN DEATH FATWA is the post-spanish terror attacks fatwa issued by a spanish Muslim group.

Google this spanish fatwa or articles on it. The fatwa never asks for the death of Bin Laden, as countless other fatwas do agains people who misrepresent Islam, it merely seeks to appease the Spanish government with instructions not to aid Bin Laden or to stop his efforts in Spain.

*****ATTENTION READERS*****

Notice "ET01's" response. She posts a vague "Islam is against terror fatwas". This perefectly illustrates my point.

Specific fatwas against specific people are issued all the time. Example - "KIll Rushdie". There are NO specific fatwas in existance against Bin laden AND anyone who understand Islam knows very very well, that if Bin Laden were misrepresenting Islam, that is, if Muslims believed AMONGST THEMSELVES that he was, we would see literally MILLIONS of death fatwas naming him.

Isn't that strange.

That is really interesting, I didn't know all that. This is troubleing to me though. I was watching the faces of the people when loved ones were killed in the bombings and it broke my heart to see the sadness. Many of my friends in USA feel the same way. We do not know these people yet we cry for them and their suffering. Many USA soldiers have given their life to protect these people. It is breaking the country to send all this money over there to help them.
My question is why are they not upset or have a fataw against the sucide bombers or I should say the ones who put them up to doing that. The clerics? Wouldn't blowing up children be worst than anything anyone could say?

This is a very good question. All the Muslims that I know don't condone Bin Laden's actions, but I haven't actually thought about things from this perspective before.

I don't presume to know enough about Shari'ah law to answer this question though. Or even whether it would be covered by the abovementioned law.

Edit: Ugh, it looks like I copied the first part of my answer directly from the one above.

I did not.

I am really glad you raised this question. I have never thought about it from that perspective before. I always thought the silence of the so called "moderate" Muslims equated to believing in what the terrorists do and proved that those killings are a true part of islam. You've just provided another reason to believe that islam is a real danger to all non-Muslims.

May God Bless you.

Not everyone agrees with every fatwah! There are many so called scholars whose fatwahs are not agreed upon. Fatwah in my opinion should be given on issues that deal with people, but not on people.
