Call the clerk of the court and ask for a continuance. If your medical condition persists, you may be able to get a continuance a couple of times; you might want to get a doctors note at some point in case the court requests it.

File notice at the court that you are ill and cannot attend the hearing for your traffic offense so that you will not be declared in contempt of court under the Rules of Court.

Contact the court BEFORE the trial if possible, or ASAP. They will probably work with you for legitimate medical reasons. If you are the defendant, you may have the option of just paying the fine. I guess you wouldn't ask if you wanted to to that.

You need to get a signed letter from a physician documenting that you can't make your court appearance due to your medical problems.
Then you need to send this letter to the court, together with a note requesting that your case be rescheduled.

Call the DA's office ahead of time. I've done it before and they will give you a new court date over the phone.

In Ontario Canada, you can send someone to appear on your behalf. Check with your local office to see if this applies to you.
