I met him over a year ago....It was love at first site for both of us...Our first date was wonderful.. He told me about his ex girl...They been on again off again for 7 years.. I spoke with her and she says she will never let him go! That they love each other and will get married one day..he says never.. She even went to my house to claim him...He went with her..He called me and begged to take the high road in all this. He asked me to be patient and she will go away...we spent all the major holidays together..including his and my birthdays!...Her birthday came and went and he was with me! He says that he loves the ex and feels bad for her because she has problems..however he professess that he is IN love with me!..Does he really love me?

The x has an 8 year old child (not his child).. she dangles the child in front of him..... he loves that kid! My children are grown..I said I can't compete with that kid card..He said the NO kid card out trumps hers. Why can't he let her go????

Something unresolved in their relationship. Give him space to resolve it for a specified time-period, then begin to push the buttons. If he doesn't respond favourably, you begin to withdraw from him, permanently if needed. As you begin to act, let him know you are doing this methodically and intentionally. He will understand.

Ugh...I'm sorry but if I were you I'd let him go. It sounds like she will always be in his life. I don't know why, some people just never let each other go for some reason. Even if one marries someone else they just always have some kind of bond. I know it sucks, I can't imagine how you have put up with this for a year. If I were you I would seriously let him go and find someone without baggage. Personally I don't believe people can be "just friends" with exes. If they still talk and hold on, there is always a chance they might get back together or he will cheat on you with her. I wouldn't trust the situation. I may be biased though because my mom is married to my stepfather for 25 years yet still secretly carries a torch for my father. When the family gets together and my father is there my mom flirts with my father in front of my stepfather! My stepfather doesn't act like it bothers him but maybe he is beyond that since he is older. I know I wouldn't put up with it though. That's a bad feeling. Anyways, good luck.

Maybe he doesnt' know how to. There's a song that can help explain all this. What It Takes by Aerosmith. That song really speaks out the pain, the way he might be feeling.

This girl sounds fatal! If he was really in love with you he would get rid of her. He says she has problems, tell him you do too! Your problem is that you cannot have a relationship with him with her hanging around. If he wants you he needs to dump her. If he really loves you tell him he has to let her go, or else you will. Be strong, and good luck! :)
