I went for an interview in December on Oxford Street, and some woman walked past me with a tiny little dog in her handbag. It was freezing cold that day and the poor little dog's eyes were watering, it was clearly unwell. I was so shocked! I didn't think anyone (other than the likes of Hilton, Spears, et al) would be so selfish and stupid. It made me really angry.

Has anyone else encountered such idiocy? If so, did it annoy you?

I don't think so, the poor thing looked ill and miserable as sin, it was shivering - this was a freezing December day. Even if it hadn't been ill, that would still have been no excuse to cart it around London's busiest shopping area in a tiny handbag. I hope it pooed in her bag.

who are you make assumptions about me like that? You don't have the foggiest idea of what I may have been through, so save me the righteous fury until you DO know. I'll spare you the details. Obviously I've seen (and experienced, thanks) a lot more horrible things than seeing some poor shivering animal in a bag, but that doesn't mean it didn't upset me. How dare you? You know absolutely nothing about me.

Oh, for God's sake.

JustQ:
1) Calling the ASPCA wouldn't help me in the UK.
2. I was, actually, in an interview when the dog went past.

Katie d: you don't know that at all, so go and insult someone else.

Are you seriously telling me you'd take your unfortunate dog shopping on Oxford Street on the busiest shopping day before Christmas? Hoe pleasant for the poor mutt. Bl00dy hell, some people...

I want to just take those people, shake them by the shoulders and shout in their faces, "A dog is NOT a fashion accessory! Take it home!"

I don't believe ANY dog is more comfortable in some stupid purse in a crowded street or mall than it would be in its own home or yard!!!

I somewhat agree. Yeah maybe the dog should've been left at home if it was freezing cold, but if the owner is going to take the dog out anyway, is it not better that the dog be in a handbag instead of on a leash? At least there was some warmth in the handbag instead of on the ground walking in the cold.

I agree with u 100%, I think it's so sad that there are stupid people that don't think, I mean Dogs have feels I'm pretty if dogs had the option they would not want to be carried in a handbag especially in the cold these people who do that are all using them for accessories and that's just wrong

Some people think they are being loving to pets, when in fact they're killing them with kindness, like feeding their dogs up with chocolate and cake as a " treat " when their digestive systems are not capable of digesting it, until they become morbidly obese. She probably thought she was being kind, not leaving the dog at home on it's own. Oh and guy from Canada I live in Scotland and - 30 means its time to slip into your Hawaiian shirt, sun shades, flip flops and go mow the lawn lol

Well to be honest pets are like fashion accessories to some people since celebrity idiots Britney and Paris made having lapdogs a fashion statement instead of treating them like pets. Now since you're in the UK we have idiots here who carry their dogs in their handbags and personally it's pointless because the dog has legs it can walk it does not need to be carried like a baby.

Yea, that is pretty awful. The woman could totally care for her dog better. I've never really encountered such a thing, as I live in a very warm place. It really never gets cold.

The problem is that some people treat animals like an accessory. There are a lot of sad people out there

The owner of the dog atleast should've put a small blanket on the dog so it wouldn't get sick atleast. Poor pup.

Some breeds of small dogs shiver because they are nervous, not because they are freezing. And my mother's poodle has watery eyes because of allergies.
That woman really should have put a sweater on the dog though, if it was cold outside.
