it was a febrile convulsion. that lasted 1 and a half mins, and he stopped breathing. i'm so worried, they say 50% of kids do it again.

See a Dr asap. Telephone one for advice, or take him to the Emergency room. He needs to have a check up, and you need advice on what to look out for.
Health Visitor or nurse you can contact ???
Get on the phone, or go to the hospital/ Drs as calmly as you can, take toys and snacks to keep the children happy and occupied.

Ignore the fit. You're right he is only a baby. Getting angry with him will only make the fit worst. The best thing I can suggest is to put him in a safe enclosed area until he's finished for example his pack and play. When his frustration is gone and he realizes that throwing the fit isn't getting your attention he'll quit. He needs to learn that the behavior he's displaying [by throwing the fit] isn't acceptable and won't be paid attention to. You should also try to figure out why he is frustrated also so that you can try to prevent these things from happening--but they will. As long as he's fed, diapered, and paid attention to he's fine. Just make sure you choose to keep him safe. Best of Luck!

I don't understand what you mean by fit - I thought you meant a temper tantrum but I don't think so now. A seizure? A night terror?

If he had a temper tantrum then feel blessed you have gotten through 20 months wihtout one. He'll be fine.

A night terror are scary if they happen for the first time. Just remember that they are still sleeping. My son only had one around 2 years old too. I just picked him up and carried him outside (it was summer) and held him till he settled down. The outside was quiet and calm and really helped I believe.

If it was a seizure then I would go to the hospital asap. Figure out what is going on.

Good Luck,
SD

You mean a tantrum or a seizure?

If a tantrum you need to understand that toddlers have them because they are unable to adequately express or sometimes even process their emotions. It isn't aimed at you and it doesn't make you a bad mother.

If you mean a seizure you will be on your guard for some time, which is good in case it recurs.

its normal.. not something that you're doing wrong.. children get frustrated bc they don't have the vocabulary to tell you what they want. He may have been tired.. or hungry.. or just not feeling well.. keeping him on a good schedule will help.. not expecting too much out of him.. and understanding where hes coming from helps.. it will pass, its just part of parenting.. and when he's having a fit for say.. a candy bar at the grocery store.. don't buy it.. or you will be teaching him that he can get what he wants by having fits. Good luck.

what happened that was so terrible. the terrible two's does not really start at 2 and end at 2. it begins at about this age and ends at about 5. it reaches the peak at around 2. than at about 4 is slows down.

the way to deal with terrible two's is first to make sure he is in a safe place ( i put him in the stroller) and 2nd is ignore him. if u r out in public just leave go outside. in about 10 minutes or less he will be back to his happy self. when my son did this i would think he was bipolar. crying one minute and happy the next.

If it was a tantrum, you must make sure the reward for the behavior is a whole lot less than the consequences. If it was due to a medical condition, get him to a doctor quickly.

Welcome to motherhood. Children have fits all the time. And at 20 months old it's only going to get worse. You have to start disciplining him. My daughter is 22 months and as soon as she even starts to make a fuss all I have to do is raise my eyebrows at her and she knows to stop. You'll get over it and soon you'll figure out what the best way to handle it it.
