My father recently lost his sight in one eye for about hour, he had an ultrasound today and has 85 and 95% blockage respectivley. He's having surgery next week to clear blockages, was wondering what is involved in this procedure, pain, recuperation times etc.

This is called a Carotidendartectomy.
They will cut the juggular vein and clean out the plaque that is causing the blockage.
Because there is a chance that a lose piece of this plaque could find it's way to the brain like a blood clot that he will need to be watched for a short period of time at the hospital.
Once his full supply to the head is restored,he could be a bit swimmy headed when he stands up or moves about so they will want to make sure he gets past that before he goes home.
Pain factor will be sore and he'll look horrible with sutures or staples down the sides of his neck and there will be a fair amount of swelling but it shouldn't be too painful to stand with maybe some pain meds like Tylenol 3.
When my father had this I don't remember it being too long of a period of recovery. . . just gotta get those incisions healed up.
The main thing about this is that he needs to change his diet because those factors that caused this is the first place can cause it again and diet plays a big factor.

Is he going to get stents in the artery? I have 2 stents and when I had the procedure they go through the groin so you don't have to be cut open. Recovery time is quick with stents probably a couple of weeks. He will be anti-clotting medication probably Plavix and take aspirin every day and watch the diet (low fat only) probably beta-blockers. He should be fine if he follows all the doctors orders. He is lucky that he didn't have a stroke with the loss of sight. Take care of yourself and your dad. Best wishes.

Should be a fairly easy surgery. Dont worry! Your father will need to cut out all fatty foods from now on. Recoop times are about 2 weeks.

there's always pain when you have surgery, but the good news is that he'll recover extremely fast since now a days they don't have to split the chest cavity open. he should have 3 to 4 holes, and thats it, he should be able to leave the next day.
