Having taken both languages, I would say go with German. The language is easier to pronounce and spell. French is good too, but I think German is better.

French language is too hard to learn. German on the other hand is really easy. We use german words a lot of the time i.e. Kindergarten. Child's garden. A lot of english words are easy to translate into german and vise versa

German! English is a Germanic language, so as a native speaker, you will have an advantage. German is also far more useful in business and industry. Once you have German down, Dutch and Scandinavian languages are easier too.

For bieing French I will of course say French. French is used in more countries that German ( Austria, Switzerland and Germany ). You can speak French in Canada, Belgium, a lot of African countries, France, some part of Asia.

For me both langages are difficult. In 11 years of studying German I couldn't get used to it.

Both languages are very interesting to learn. However, since your interest is international relations, then French would be more appropriate to learn because French is the language that is required for many professions that have to do with international relations. For example, if one day you would like to work for the United Nations, then French is definitely a requirement.

Pick both!

If you're going to crank your poor head open and learn new languages, German is more like English and French is more like Spanish, in my humble opinion.
