I want to send the "save-the-date" magnets for my wedding. I know you can send out the "save-the-date" cards prior to invitations with the words "Invitations to follow." Is the etiquette for sending out the magnets the same too? I.e., can I send out the magnets by themselves before I send out my invitations as well or should I send them out with the invitation cards?

I'm getting ready to send mine out, so I've been searching the internet for "when to send them" too! Everything I have read says 4-6 months before the wedding. So I don't think you'd want to put them in with the invitations-invitations are generally sent out 6 weeks prior to the ceremony. So, really, a magnet isn't serving it's purpose if you send it out that late. (Yeah, I was going to just throw them in with the invitations at first, but decided against it.)

Also, as I was brainstorming, I decided that just putting a magnet in an envelope might be a little confusing to some people-like the older guests. The save-the-date-trend is fairly new and magnets-almost unheard of!
I created a little piece of paper to slide in with the magnets that says:
"Jon" bought the ring,
"Jane" said yes,
We're having a wedding,
hope you'll be our guest!
~ Date of Wedding~
Invitation will arrive closer to the date!
(Magnetic reminder enclosed.)

Yeah, it's goofy-but, it's for our family and friends...we're a little offbeat anyway!

You might consider adding a little something in the envelope to explain what the magnet is. Some might not even realize it's a magnet and just set it on the counter to get shuffled in with incoming mail! You can download some fantastic wedding fonts for free online, and type up something simple in MS Word. You can even add some free clip art on the little notecard to make it more unique.

Anyway, good luck & Congrats to you both!

You can send out the save the date magnets the same time you would send out card versions- at least 6-8 weeks prior to the wedding (a bit longer if it is a destination wedding). You can specify on the magnets that the invites are to follow.

I would send out the magnets before the invites. Usually save the dates are sent out about a year or so before the wedding and the invites are sent out about 2 months prior to the big day.

Usually you send save the date magnets before you send the wedding invitations but save the dates aren't really necessary unless you are getting married on a holiday weekend when people may have plans...really other than that they are a huge waste of money!!!!

The magnets are the same idea as the "save-the-date" cards. You should send them out 1 year to 6 months prior to your event.

You send out the magnets as soon as you book your location & know for sure the date won't change. Then you send out the invitsations closer about 12 weeks before the wedding.

I would mail the save the date magnets about 4-5 months prior. They will allow out of town guests to make travel plans book a hotel, round up pet sitters, put in a vacation request, and make babysitting arrangements to attend your wedding. If you sent them out earlier than that, chances are airlines won't have their flight schedules open yet.

You will want to mail your invites about 6 weeks in advance. Congrats!!

I agree with the six month advice you have gotten.

Since its a magnet, though, I dont think you need to say on it "Invitation to follow" people will know thats not the invitation and it might kind of junk up the look of your magnet.

Good luck!
