Gee, I hope this isn't for a school report, or anything...

You can check the local paper for people trying to find homes for kittens, or your local SPCA.

If you get them from an add, probably free. The SPCA charges, but that fee will include their first vaccinations and (if the cats is older) spaying and neutering. If it's a kitten, they also give you a reduced rate when you bring it in later to get it fixed.

NO, it is NOT a good thing to get them declawed. This procedure takes their 'finger' up to the first knuckle. It also renders them pretty much defenseless.

They can eat dry or can food, or even a mix of both. My vet also suggests some fresh veggies, rice. If you throw some garlic in the mix, it can help deter fleas.

If they are too heavy, then yes, a diet should be considered. An over weight cat is not always a healthy one (for the same reason as humans.)

Cats aren't too easy to train to do tricks. They aren't as eager to please humans as dogs are. Although, if you really want to try, cat treats can be a good incentive. Just keep in mind that too many will make them sick.

If you meant how do you train them to use a litter box, put them in a litter box and 'scratch' their paws in the litter. If you see them searching out a place, with their tail curled under (sometimes they'll meow), pick them up and put them in the litter box. But kittens who are of an adoptable age should know how to use the facilities- they can be trained around 4 weeks of age.

A water bottle is a good way to train them against bad behaviour. Another is a container of pennies. The loud noise scares them.

Cats regular check ups are scheduled according to their vaccination times- 2 months, 3 months, 4 months, then once a year, unless they are sick.

Why are they flexible? Just to make you ask questions. Oh, look, it worked.

Cat mint is a mood altering herb. If you really wanted to understand more about it, you could try it in a tea. It's actually considered a naturopathic medicine.

The best toy would either be a stuffed mouse with cat mint in it, or maybe a 'fishing rod', a stick with a string and a toy on the end.

Discipline: Telling them no, making a hissing noise (like a snake, not a cat), spray bottle, pennies in a container...

The average cat is about 10 lbs. Some can be lighter, some heavier. It depends on their size, bone structure and gender.

An average litter of kittens is 4-6. I think the highest recorded amount was 26 kittens. In my home, I seen a litter of 1, and a litter of 8.

Heat for females lasts between 7 and 10 days.

There are many ways to tell if a cat is sick. Hairballs, throwing up, not eating, blood in their stool, not using the litter box, lethargy (I could go on...)

1. From a registered cat breeder.
2. It really depends on the breed. Usually they are $200 - $700 for a purebred kitten from a breeder and usually $90 from a shelter.
3. NO! De-clawing a cat is a very inhumane act. The vet actually needs to cut the BONE at the knuckle. They are always in a lot of pain after surgery and once the claws are gone, they are defenseless.
4. Good quality dry food (Purina is an excellent brand) and either canned food (not that great for the health) or raw mince from either the butcher or you can get packets of mince meat (kangaroo meat, beef mince etc.).
5. Not unless your vet recommends that the cat goes on a diet. The only reasons the cat should go on a diet is either to lose/put on/maintain weight or due to health problems.
6. They are very stubborn! They are very easy to teach where to go to the toilet and where they eat, the rest is virtually impossible to teach them!
7. Veterinary advice, books, advice and the best "weapon" is a spray bottle filled with water at ALL times.
8. They should be checked by a vet every year for a thorough check up.
9. Bone structure? Not too sure on that one...
10. Because catnip is very high in Vitamin C. Also because catnip is a distant relative to marijuana.
11. A feather duster (minus the dust), hair ties (buy a pack of at least 30, the cat will lose them easily), a toy mouse (some vibrate), another cat, string, etc. There are many toys that you can get for cats that will make them happy for hours.
12. Get a spray bottle and fill it with water. If they do something bad, spray them with it. I never point my finger at my kittens as they just respond to the finger by either scratching it or biting it.
13. The average weight of a cat is 8-13lb (3 - 5kg). It can depend on the breed of the cat (for example; the Maine Coon would weigh more than average because it is a very large breed of cat).
14. Again, it can depend on the breed of cat. On average, they usually give birth to 5 - 15 kittens per litter. Obviously, 15 is a very rare amount.
15. They usually come in heat when they are 5 - 7 months old for anywhere from 5 days to 3 weeks. Just with a womans cycle, there is now way to tell exactly how long they will stay on heat for. I would get your cat spayed EARLY so that she doesn't start all the annoying behavioral changes (calling - very annoying, constant meow, trying to escapse etc.).
16. It is very hard to tell when a cat is sick. Even just the mildest sign (vomiting, loss of appetite, diarrhoea etc.) means that you should take her to the vet.

1. It is best to check with local breeders if you are interested in buying a purebred cat.
2. Expense is based on what type of cat you are interested in buying. (could range from $50-$300 or more). Or you can adopt a cat from your local humane society, which will only be like $25.
3. Declawing is a personal choice to make. If it is an inside cat and you don't want any of your furniture to be shredded, it will be a good idea. Only declaw the front claws, as the cat will need something to scratch themselves with and need some sort of defense. You can always buy scratching posts for the cat to claw on. Just remember that outside cats CANNOT be declawed because they will have no defense and won't be able to climb trees or such to get away from danger.
4. It is always best to feed a cat dry cat food, as most soft canned cat food will irritate their bowels and they can get diarrhea. (remember, the softer the food, the softer the stool).
5. You should not put your cat on a diet unless he is overweight. You should have the cat first examined by a vet before putting the cat on a diet.
6. Usually cats will start using the litter box as soon as you first put them in there. Some are harder to train, such as the cats that have spent most of their lives outside. If you get a cat from outside, you may want to put some leaves down in the cat box in order for them to use it.
7. Usually you can take a spray bottle of water and spray them if they are doing something not to your liking. After a while the cats will realize that if they do it, they will get sprayed.
8. You can talk to your local vet about checkups, but it is usually when their shots come due or about once a month.
9. Cats have to be able to wash themselves, which they have to be flexible to do so.
10. Catnip is an herb belonging to the mint family, which contains a chemical called Nepetalactone which is an unsaturated lactone that does for some cats what marijuana does for some people.
11. Toys vary and cats vary on what toys they like. You will have to try different types of toys with your cat to find out which one he prefers. Most cats will play with just about anything you buy for them.
12. Again, the spray bottle comes in handy.
13. It depends on the cat's diet to determine the size they will get. There are some cats that weigh 16+ pounds.
14. This also depends on the cat. Sometimes cats can have only 1 kitten and some can have up to 10 or more kittens per litter. The smaller the cat, the more likely they will have a smaller litter count.
15. On average, a cat stays in heat for about 2 weeks.
16. They will start to act strangly, as not having a lot of energy, don't want to be petted, and not eating. There are a lot of ways to know your cat is not feeling well.

Hope this helps.
