I have had a tattoo on my shoulder for about 7-8 years and sometimes it will swell and itch. The whole thing doesn't swell, just the outline. My others don't do this. I was just wondering if this was normal and if anyone else has ever seen this.

It happens a on one part of one of my tattoos. It gets a little red and itches a bit. Goes away pretty quickly too. It has not been much besides a bother every once in a while, and isn't really noticeable to others. I asked my doctor about it and he said its probably as simple as when I get nervous or stressed it happens. Almost like hives or something, because there is foreign stuff in there. (probably in addition to the ink) and altho your body cant remove it when stressed it tries to attack the ink if that makes any sense. Or simple as you are midly allergic to the type of ink they used. He said it is nothing to worry about/ not much you can do. I chalk it up to the artist not being as careful as they could be during the session. And me not taking care of it as well as I could have while it healed. Hope this helps a little.

PS if the doctor tells you anything it is most likely going to be to put benadryl on it. Or use some other antihistamine.

I Don't Think It's Normal, You May Have A Weird Reaction To Something In The Ink Or The Needle. Go To A Dermatologist And See What's Up With That Before It Gets Any Worse.

Some of the dyes will not cause a reaction for 15 years or more. Yellow is one of them. You need to consult your health care professional or a tattoo artist that you trust. Remember allergic reactions to a substance can happen to an individual at any time out of nowhere.

Never heard of that happening before. I have two tattoos myself and a few of my friends have them also. It sounds like your not really that concerned about it our you would have gone to a doctor abou it. Since your on here asking others post the same questions to your regular doctor.
