Seriously? Are they ill educated zealots?

Reading some of the answers put forward in these forums makes me want to cry! Is the United States education system that bad?! I don't mean any disrespect yo your country, really I don't, but from what I can see the majority of users answering in such a fashion are American.

I mean, an education system that doesn't teach the fundemental principles of biology is a total farce!

And why do people insist on answering questions for which they have noooo expertise?! I mean, the answers people put forward in what they THINK they know about, say astrophysics are jus ridiculous. If someone put up an answer saying, and believing the same to be true, that the moon was made of cheese, I would not be surprised, dismayed, but not surprised.

We aren't living in an enlightened age at all. Ignorance prevails.

Ireland's workforce is one of the most educated in the world, actually. That's why we are the second largest software exporter in the world, after the US. (Before you go "HA" , Your population is more than 50 times that of Ireland's.)
Personally, I'm a lawyer.

And I never said that everyone here is an idiot, there are many intelligent people here. Of course there are. I am merely dismayed at the general prevalence of ignorance.

I have met some very intelligent people here, from all countries. All of them, with the exception of one agnostic and one Pagan, are atheists.

Well, not everyone on here is an idiot. Most have opinions and like to express them. Maybe they do think they know a little about a subject, or maybe they don't agree with what was said. Not everyone on this site is as apparently as educated as you. Most are on this for fun. It's a free country, let people answer how they see fit.
As for the education system, it's not wonderful. Too many kids in a class, not enough one on one time with the teacher, and most schools don't seem to care if the kid can read and write and put them up a grade anyways. If you feel that strongly about how uneducated the general population is, then do something about it. Volunteer at the local school as a tutor, or be a big brother.
Some of the questions and answers on here are put up as a joke. Don't take everything you read seriously. It will make you a dull, dull man.

The educational system is the pits in the USA in some regards. It is deemed more important that students sit in class so that the school system can be paid, than to actually worry much about teaching children who do not want to learn.

The modern system also groups the "I don't wanna learns" with the ones with higher aptitude and motivation. Therefore bringing down the level of the whole class. Of course the bright ones know this and many achieve great results.

A high school education in the USA means absolutely nothing now except that you attended class regularly enough to have achieved enough hours sitting. Most of the lower grade teachers I personally know also barely can write a sentence or spell a four syllable word without using Check Spell; and most won't do that in their own correspondence.

The university systems are not based like this and American universities are still amongst the highest rated in the world.

"I don't mean any disrespect yo your country, really I don't, but from what I can see the majority of users answering in such a fashion are American."

Let me tell you a little story. Once upon a time, a farmer called his veterinarian out to check his horses; he was concerned that his bay horses seemed to be eating more than the grey ones. After careful examination, the veterinarian determined that the farmer had more bay horses.

Anyway, I'd say the American school system isn't appreciably worse than that in Britain; it's just that Americans have more access to computers and a greater cultural tendency to sound off without thinking. At least we're a little further from surrendering completely to become dhimmi.

I'd also be careful about casting aspersions from the Emerald Isle - I've seen the drunken boors at your football games. I still recall riding on a trip with an Irish fellow who drove straight into a slough which I told him was there; you'd think an Irishman would have known a bog when he saw it.

I'm not sure I would use the word "idiots". There are intelligent people on this forum; they just have a barrier that prevents them from learning certain things. That barrier is their religion, of course.

Anyone on this forum could take a course on evolution and pass it with flying colors if they studied and put in the work and dedicated themselves to it. There's no question in my mind about that. But the problem is that they don't WANT to understand it, so they're not going to make that honest effort. That's why you keep seeing comments here that seem pretty stupid, like "why don't monkeys in the wild give birth to humans?" or "you evolutionists think that the muck at the bottom of the lake suddenly grew legs and walked out onto the sand".

Hey, we went to the Moon with a Computer no Larger than a Watch Calculater!
Hows That for Americana!

And I bought a Watch (real small with about Three Buttons on it). When I finally Unfolded the Instructions, I found out it could do a Buch of Things Too!
All you had to do was Follow the Instructions, for Example:

a. Push Button 1. three Times and Button 2. Once for StopWatch.
b. Push Button 3. two Times and Button 2. Once for Set Time
c. So on..

How's That for Technology?

I Threw That Thing Away.
Ditto....................

Fundamental principles of biology or astrophysics do not provide all the answers as you state. So far they have provided even more questions. Otherwise, there would be no debate. But since debate occurs, there are no scientific facts. Only scientific beliefs. You are not better than anyone else because you THINK you know the answers. That's the problem, you THINK you know but you don't.

Well Irishcharmer, I really think you should change your name. We are in the R&S section for a reason. We have faith in God, something you apparently know nothing about. I would rather be an ignorant American Christian than a pseudointellect that feels he is holier than everyone else and then says "I mean no disrespect". You absolutely meant disrespect and you are incredibly wrong.

Oh, doesn't your computer have spell check? Just wondering.

May God Bless you.

Re: Lyndalu_98

"Re" is an abbreviated form of the Latin "in re", which, "re" being the ablative case of "res" (thing), means "concerning" or "in the matter of"

For those who still dont get it, "re" means "thing or matter"

P.s. Lyndalu_98, Ironic really, that you are commenting on how ignorant the question is, when infact your answer says something similar about you. Irony rocks. (but you probably have to be british to understand that)

I now really hope the 're' in the title means 'matter', and is not a mis-typed 'are'. If it is, then i would be stupid... now THAT would be really ironic!!

Most of us answerers are idiots.

I don't think I'm under your classification of idiot, though. I think I agree with you on most things.

Scratch that, most people here are not idiots. Many are just very ignorant. I use this word a lot. I'm saying that people believe what they're taugh without considering for a second that they *gasp* COULD BE WRONG?
