Is there something wrong with holding in your sneezes? Because I sneezed approximately 8 times today and held them all in. It's what I've been doing every time I sneezed for the past 2 years! And then I had this terrible nose bleed that wouldn't stop, and finally I breathed in really hard, and this big glob (i know, DISGUSTING) of blood went down into my mouth and I spat it out. Is that bad? What should I do?

Direct quote:
"Your mother probably taught you to sneeze fully, that is, with your mouth open, but always to cover your mouth (she might also have suggested washing your hands afterward). Medical experts agree.

Trying to smother a sneeze by forcefully blocking the explosive phase can cause serious trouble because it dangerously raises the pressure in the blood vessels of the head. Stifling a sneeze by forcing the lips to remain closed instead directs the force of the sneeze against the membranes of the nose and middle ear, which can result in congestion, pain, ringing in the ears and nosebleeds.

The would-be sneezer who tries to abort the explosion by pressing gently against the nose instead transmits the pressure to the blood vessels of the brain, possibly causing a stroke. The third type of sneezer, whose sneeze is accompanied by ear-splitting vocalizations, does himself no harm but may cause momentary alarm in bystanders. To Stop a Sneeze

Most of the tricks, like pressing on the upper lip, rubbing the face, wrists and ankles with lard, or sniffing garlic, horseradish, witch hazel, alcohol or olive oil, among others, are of doubtful effectiveness. If they work at all, the reason is more likely psychological than physiological. "

Don't hold in your sneezes. That is your body's way of getting rid of something bad it doesn't want.
