Don't jump to using genetics as an excuse, it'll give you an excuse to lean back on and then you'll never get any work done!
First off, eat how you normally do (so don't change your eating habits just yet) and write down EVERYTHING that goes in your mouth. Then count up all the calories from every day from the week and come to an average. (If you eat 1200cal one day, then 2000 the next day then 2600 the third day and so on choose the amount of calories that's in the middle)
Take the middle amount (In this example it would be 2000) and subtract 300-500 calories from it(so either 1700cal or 1500 depending on your willpower)
Eat mainly healthy foods, but make sure to treat yourself sometimes. If you don't your cravings might overpower your willpower.
Also, always read the nutrition lable and the ingredients.
You want low fat, low cholesteral and high nutrients.
Always check the ingrediants for enriched flour and High fructous corn syrup, these are B-A-D to the max!

For exercise, start slow. Walk everyday for 30 minutes if you rarely exercise now. If you do exercise, every second day throw in some cardio workouts.
For weightloss you need at LEAST 30 minutes 3 days a week of cardio and 20 minutes 3 days a week of weight training. (Iike reps with light weights.)

There are some genetics involved in being heavy, but there is no "obesity" gene. If you are too heavy to get around and do what you have to do, thats not genetic. Its sad to see so many unhealthy people saying its genetic because their mother or father were the same way. Thats just living by example. Real genetically heavy set people are shaped for their weight, not rolls of fat hanging off of them
Now, as far as you needing to lose weight, we must know how much you weigh and how tall you are. And thats just to go by the medical "healthy height-weight ratio" chart. A picture would really help, because you may be genetically built to carry a few more pounds than others of the same height.

yeah, it actually can be genetic. im kind of in a similar situation. my mom and grandma have both struggled with weight problems and now im a little bit above the average weight for my age. my best advise would be excercizing a few nights a week and being careful with what you eat. i go to the gym usually 2-4 times a week and run a mile then durring the week i eat healthier things like subs and salads. but its also important not to deprive yourself of the foods you love to loose weight just eat less of them. i still eat an occasional cookie with my lunch just as a treat. =] good luck i know weight problems are tough! i know you can do it just stay on the right track and whatever you do DONT go the annorexia/bulemia way! =]

It's all about portion control. I was a size 3 most of my life until I had my son. I gained 50 lbs with him and was so upset. Recently, I started eating less at each meal and the weight is finally dropping. I was 127 about 6 months ago. Now I am 116 and couldn't be happier. You can eat out and fast food. When you want Burger King and such order the kids meals, not the adult meals. They are just as filling and have alot fewer calories. Try it and see if it works for you.

dont waste your money on diet pills and all that crap, the 'secret' is excerise. Im 17 years old and im 5 foot 11 165 pounds, i eat w/e feel like it. I take in way way way way way more calories than a normal male should, but im still all muscel, the reason, i work out every day (not every day 5 days a week, core work 7 days) its the type of excerise you do that really helps. there are pleanty of little tricks like that, and drink some green tea as well (its fairly cheap, low cals, and will give you engery to workout and will increase your metablism (not sure how it tastes...never tried it)

im 15 too. you need to eliminate most sugars and fats from your diet everything in moderation is okay. eat five or six little meals a day consisting of mostly protein like chicken and then a salad with it. you should also work out four days a week for at least forty minutes. never let yourself get hungry because then you over indulge. it sounds weird but eat often because it boosts your metabalism or something. good luck.

Have you seen a doctor? Perhaps he could give you the best suggestions. If it's genetic, then that could make it harder..but definitely eat well, exercise a lot! I'm sorry I don't have the best answer... I kind of need to do the opposite actually.

It is definately genetic. Most likely you both have slow metabolism. You can get really healthy and try to correct this problem. Everyone has flaws that were given to them by their parents. So don't feel bad.
