I always take breaks. Sometimes I will read a 600 page book in a few days, sometimes I don't read for 4 months. Sometimes I only read in the bathroom!

It depends on your reading habits, how often, you know.

If you're an avid reader, just wait it out. When the mood strikes...

Why do you need to read books? I think if you ask yourself that, and then ask yourself why you don't like to, you'll answer your own question. You don't say if you're homeschooled or in a public school, I would assume the former except there are so many of the latter here that who knows. You don't say if you had read for fun, or only for work. You don't say how old you are, are you a kid who needs to read for school, or an adult who's looking for a hobby?

Usually people who are tired of reading find that they are being forced to read items they are not interested in. Or they might be in a phase where other things are more important than reading. THAT IS OKAY...despite what people think, it is okay to take a break, you won't break out in spots of ignorance or a rash of illiteracy. Find alternatives, books on tape, movies based on books, listen to good music, do puzzles like sudoku. Just keep your brain active. Even reading the car or gamer's magazines, or newspapers, even your favorite indie will be okay. Reading online is good too, you can find just as much information, and keep your brain limber.

Talking to a librarian might help. My son ran out of books he was interested in, and after talking to the children's librarian, she was able to find his interests and steer him towards some books that were similar but a little more difficult.

How old are you? That would probably make a difference on my suggestions. If you are young adult or adult; and not enthused about fiction books you may want to read some good non-fiction books. My husband enjoys reading those kind of books more than fiction. Some of his favorites have been: "Into Thin Air" by Jon Krakauer (I liked that one a lot too!) It's well-written gripping nonfiction about the Mount Everest tragedies. He liked "Duel of the Sun" about marathoners, or probably just any non-fiction topic you enjoy would be a good topic to read about as well.

If you post back with an update with your age range and what genre you like to read: sci/fi/fantasy/mystery/etc.; I could give you more ideas as our family is all book lovers...

Yes, actually. The same thing happened to me a couple of years ago. I was "all read out" due to my mom's constant pressure on me to read a book per week. You can probably gain your will back by taking a break from books. Just avoid reading for a few weeks; you can afford to take a vacation from the literary world. I think you'll find that you'll enjoy reading again. It worked for me!

I just force myself and concentrate and then suddenly find myself interested and go with the flow. Perhaps it was a boring book that made you loose your will to read. Remember that there are some awesome books out there! Don't judge a book by its cover is what they always say!

=D Hope this helped.

I like book on tape while I'm doing something more active. A great site to buy them is at www.audible.com. They're cheap, and there are lots of different kinds for different age groups. Can't catch me sitting down to read a good book, but at least I learn something from the books on tape (they work on MP3 players and CD players).

If you are in school , you may have to force yourself to read for your assignments. If you have been an avid reader, possibly its time to change interests for a bit. Get involved in a hobby that captures your imagination and you will want to read about it. Or, change the type of books you normally read. Concentrate on ONE author instead of many of them and become an expert. Think about why you liked to read and try to regain that.

You've got to figure out why you aren't interested in reading books anymore. Are you addicted to computer stuff? Have you been reading too much of the same sort of thing and aren't actually bored with reading but bored with what you've been reading? Something else? Figure out what the actual issue is then address that.

Start with something easy, not like a picture book , but a short chapter book. Then move on to something a little harder, and then something a little harder. I also find going to the library and just looking through books until you find one or two that you like works. Good luck :)!!
