A simple vlookup formula will do. Google for it. Finding it is like finding buried treasure in Excel toolbox.

WOw! I did Advance classes in Excel, but this one doesnt quite click! Im sure i know how to do it, but i just cant figure out what really it is you want to do, I think its a Filter/Lookup formula....
Or maybe even better! the IF formual! it goes something like this
Cell B2 ..... =IF(A2=Smith, "Green", " ")
Cell B3 ..... =IF(A3=Cole, "Red", " ")

Ectt ectt....

if did it wrong, im sure its still the IF formula you want to use!

well, try checking out this website www.excelgoodies.com

they teach excel online. they do provide online help. why dont u try that site.
