No it's not too desperate. It's not a law that the man ask the woman. Plus, women usually ask first....it's called nagging until they get what they want and make the men ask them first, even though he is not ready. By you asking him first, it might mean a lot to him that you love him enough to step up and ask. Good Luck and keep us posted on how it went!!!!

This IS 2007! Of course a woman can ask a man to marry her! I was going to but then I found out he is going to do it soon so I am just letting it happen!

Yes a woman can ask a man. No it's not desperate, unless you haven't been together very long and he doesn't seem interested. It never hurts to ask, if he is interested then good! and if not, then maybe it's something you two can talk about. If he runs away then it wasn't meant to be.

as some others have said IT IS 2007 - & more enlightened times where almost anything goes - at least in Western Culture-
speaking of tradition - it has also been traditional for woman to do the proposing in a Leap Year.
go with whatever you personally feel comfortable with.
HELL there have been TV shows where the lady comes on stage in a wedding gown & proposes to her man in front of the cameras

Any one can do anything. But of course a woman asking a man is NOT recommended. Yes, that would be far too desperate. Please don't. The whole tradition in a man asking a woman, is because it takes a lot longer for a man to be ready for a commitment like that. So when he is ready, he will ask you. Please don't ask him.

there is absolutely nothing wrong with a woman asking a man to marry her. it is completely a societal construct that only men can do the persuing of a lady. if he thinks it's weird, that's his problem. be confident and go for it.

Without more info, it's hard to answer--do you guys talk about marriage? Does he know how serious you are about him? If so, then I would say that you should definitely ask him. Who cares about protocol? It's the (not so new anymore) millennium--be forward thinking!
When my uncle and his wife got married, she proposed to him with a ring pop. He then bought her a ring afterwards, but it worked for them! It was cute and they are very, very happy.

Well i did!! Me and my man have been together for awhile and i asked him!! He said yes and a few days later he asked me jokingly and put a ring on my finger! The wedding is set for May 19th!!
