I mean, why when humans find something funny do they start to spasm and let out a guffawing sound? Why don't animals laugh? I've never seen an animal bust a gut upon listening to a Yo Mama joke and my experiments turn up 0 results. Can somebody explain?

Humans laugh at your jokes to be polite.

Animals don't laugh because they're embarrassed for you.

Not a scientist btw, I'm a kid

Animals do in fact laugh, what are they laughing at? Scientists have long known that for many animals, life isn't all about hunting, foraging, fighting, and sleeping. Young animals also play a lot, which suggests that animal laughter is related to playful joy.

Technically, it's not certain that animals really laugh like humans, but they are capable of making complex emotions such as fear, anger, and even joy and sadness.

Humans laugh because it's a complex way of expressing our emotions over something. LOLOLOLOLOL

You've never seen a dolphin playing?

Ever own a dog?

Just because they don't make HUMAN sounds, doesn't mean they aren't having a good "laugh".

"I've never seen an animal bust a gut upon listening to a Yo Mama joke and my experiments turn up 0 results"

That is undoubtedly the STUPIDEST thing I have ever read on YA. Congratulations.

I think it takes a certain amount of abstract thought to understand the concept of humor. Don't get me wrong, I'm not claiming that animals don't have emotions, I'm sure they do, but humor... isn't exactly emotion, it's something less concrete than that. For a trait to survive and be passed on to every single member of a species it has to have some positive purpose. In ours, laughter strengthens social bonds. In order for another animal to evolve laughter, well... first they would have to be a social animal, which are relatively rare. Also there's no particular reason why a wolf's laughter, or a chimps laughter would be anything like ours. It just has to be a signal, telling others that you found something to be funny. Perhaps other animals do have that, we just don't know how to read it.

totally different species. different vocal chords. also they cant understand english so why in the world would they laugh at a yo mama joke? and that chick who said animals dont have souls or fellings can go to hell coz she is full of ****. ever heard a dog whimper when you hurt it or when they are hungry. they bark when they are either excited or defending their territory or they are excited and having fun. cats purr when they are loved and petted. every living thing has a soul and feelings and emotions. she can go straight to hell. she would be the type of person who would hurt an animal coz she doesnt think it gets upset. she is a *****!

Animals do laugh (many mammals do) ! Our difference in vocal chords doesn't make it particularly clear. They don't laugh very often, because there's not really a joke to them; they don't have the intelligence to interpret human jokes, or the intelligence to come up with their own.

Animals do laugh.
Go on youtube and type in laughing chimp.
Monkeys laugh recognizably all the time. We can't easily recognize other animal noises, they are different from ours, but everyone one has heard a monkey laugh.

monkey's laugh and play games
lots of mammals play, i just dont think they have the muscle control in the face to 'perform' a laugh, but im sure they have other ways to express themselves

Humans are the only creatures that laugh or blush.

But humans are the only creatures that need to.
