He's 3 years old. I took away his binky recently and ever since then he hasn't taken a nap. He gets really cranky without a nap. Any suggestions?

This happened with my son, he's 2, almost three I took away his pacifier and told him he was a big boy and didn't need it anymore. without it, he'd just scream and refuse to sleep. I took him into the family room, put him on the couch with TV on and put the pacifier on the table in front of him. I set the kitchen timer for 20 minutes and told him to try and fall asleep. if he couldn't fall asleep by the time timer went off I'd give the pasifier to him. I've been doing this for about three months and he's yet to have not fallen asleep before the timer goes off. if times almost up and he's not asleep i add a few more minutes. he's three, no concept of time =). Good luck.

Maybe you could lay down with him untill he falls asleep.I feel for you,I just went through that not that long ago.My youngest will be 4 in July and I stopped his naps a few months ago.He falls asleep faster at bed time without a nap. I do miss those few hours during the day that I had to myself though, but it was hell getting him to take a nap. Sometimes it wasn't even worth it because he gave me such a hard time. Good luck.

I let my daughter take a nap on the coach. I turn on the news. Then I will wash dishes or do something where she can see me. Within 15 minutes she is asleep.

Make child comfortable on sofa or bedroom which ever you prefer. Then give the child a book to read to you, while you go about your business, close by. Usually they will fall asleep.

This usually works for the kids at my work, so long as you have the time/patience (It usually takes no more than 5 min.). Just have him lay down (with his eyes closed if he will do that, not really needed) and sit beside him gently rubbing his back. Like I said, it tends to work, though I don't know why.
