i got braces today (march 8th). about how fast will i be able to notice a difference with my gap between my two front teeth?
i can stick my tongue sideways through it currently..

You will notice a change with in a few weeks, slight but it will be some change. Now you need to keep in mind that the orthodontist isn't just closing the gap, he's moving all of your teeth so the gap will stay closed. If he just closed this gap, then the teeth next to them would have a gap. So all the teeth have to shift to pick up, or I should say loose the gap or extra space and still have the upper and lower meet together corectly. See what I mean? It will take a little time, try to be patient and take extra good care of your braces and keep your teeth clean too. Believe it or not, missing appointments, breaking brackets and wires, swollen and bleeding gums all slow down your treatment. So take care of them and maybe you'll get them off sooner and have a fantastic beautiful smile! Good luck and hope I was of some help!

most orthodontists will put something called chains. they pull hard and the gap will go away in about a week it hurts a lot but whats a little paind compaired to straight teeth

I have braces... it might takes a few months...to a year. Don't expect it to happen so quickly. I have already have had mine on for like...2 and a half years. But, it shouldn't be too long. Good Luck!!:):):):)

It only actually takes a few months, though you'll have to keep the braces on for a lot longer for your teeth to stay put.

omg i got braces today too, lol! my orthodontist told me that i will start to see a difference within a week or two. she said i might be surprised and happy, so i hope the same goes for you! good luck with the pain! (ugh!) :-)

I just got my braces off so I would know. Very fast. dont worry it should all go away soon.

talk to your orthodontist for exact time frames. it varies with each person.
