Personally, I don't believe in souls, so I would agree. Pretending for a moment that I did, however; What exactly do we know about souls? Next to nothing, really. Couldn't the soul still be the animating force, but you're still prevented from staying alive by the fact that it is now... let's say, untethered from your body? Like glue, for example. I can glue two things together and make them one object. But, should they ever come apart, I can't simply touch them to each other again and make them stick. I'm going to need more glue for that.

Well, you could say electricity is the "animating force" of my computer, too - but plugging in a broken computer won't make it work.
