why do we have to be all nice about religion when we can scrutinize political issues?

I think that they do. Many people can't talk politics or religion without getting in heated arguements or debates. Never bothered me. I like to hear what others think. I already know what I think.

particular it does, and no they at the instant are not. yet there's a line to entice between criticism and rants. i've got self belief that on account that Yahoo is a private agency they're loose to place the line the place they suspect it may well be. whether, this would not decrease your freedom of speech, you could continuously undergo a weblog or use an unmoderated newsgroup and so on. whether, each and each communicate board has the the main suitable option to place the regulations it needs to place on the content fabric which could be published. This works the two techniques, I as quickly as had a question deleted for asking atheists a question that the powers that be deemed offensive. EDIT: and that i've got been given a question delete for asking why some atheists have the conceitedness to have self belief that they are extra sensible than the numerous non secular scientists (Isaac Netwon replaced into my occasion). this question replaced into in step with one published by skill of an atheist asking whether theists have low IQs or are brainwashed to have self belief of their faith. I had that query bumped off. As I stated, YA solutions seems to artwork on a majority vote equipment, if a extensive sufficient team of folk say that something is offensive, it gets deleted.

yes because everything is a matter of theory. people in politics say im gonna do this this will work, and then someone else says no it wont and it is scrutinized. The religious theory is the same way, different religious people say different stuff and it should be scrutinized

NO. Religious views are personal beliefs and should just be accepted by others; while people should not expect their religious view to be adopted by others.

Political views may be discussed. There are actual facts to consider, and a real possibility of changing another persons opinion about a candidate or issue.

Generally, "neither should be discussed in polite company", it has been said.

I haven't seen many people being nice about religion or politics on here. So apparently we don't have to be. Personally the minute someone starts getting rude or judgemental, I keep my mouth shut. There's no point arguing insults. I have yet to see a religious or political question that isn't either rude or judgemental itself or have rude and judgemental answers.

I guess whatever works for ya...

Personally, I think both the Religion and the Politics categories are 90% insults and slurs, and maybe...maybe 10% legitimate, mature questions.

Neither category is a place for any rational, productive dialogue.

I seriously doubt that any participants actually experience any "illumination" or experience a change in their philosophy or theology worth spit.

Christians are not "converting" any atheists here.
Atheists are not "educating" any Christians here.

I think it would be awesome if Yahoo were to get a handful of "experts" to moderate various categories. Why not? People who are into competitive sports have to rely on/tolerate referees, dont' they? "Judges decisions are final."

That way, you might actually see a higher percentage of intelligent discourse and a much lower percentage of dung-slinging.

The Kool-aid must be getting to me...

Both issues are volatile and raise heated emotions.

Yes, I do agree they should both get the same respect for differing views.

Political views don't burn you at the stake.

People are nice about religion, because as I said, politicians don't burn you at the stake. At least not illegally.
