Check the local newspaper. All newspapers have databases that usually have that kind of information in it. Next I would check the DA and police department. Good luck.

Start with the jurisdiction where it happened. If the case has been closed, after this much time it would be on microfiche and they would have to search the archives to find it. If the jurisdiction where it occurred isn't any help, go to the state police investigative division and see if they have anything on record.
You can also contact the local papers and ask for an archive search to get the original articles about the case. Those will tell you what agency had the investigation originally and a starting point.
Just an FYI, many agencies close out a case without an actual conviction, if their prime suspect dies or is incarcerated for other reasons. So it may be a "closed" file without being actually solved.
Good luck, Suz

I am from SD and this story reminds me of an incident that happened many years ago to a friend ,s brother that lived in Deadwood. Her brother was killed and I don't believe that has ever been solved.
Your best place to inquire would be to contact the States Attorney in the county this occurred. It would have went through him, had anyone been caught and prosecuted.
Good Luck

You have a right to the info due to the freedom of information act. I would start with your local law enforcement and see if they can point you in the right direction. Go in person, it's easier to say no on the phone.

I am sorry for this and I hope this murderer gets his share of punishment for what he caused. Its sad when people do such things. One life is also of incredible value. God bless you and I hope you can live happy knowing your bro is in heaven. Bye
