Ok probably you should tell him that long-distance relationships just don't work out and you aren't happy with the relationship.

If you don't want he direct fly back to Illinois and cry and beg for you just said it's no the timing for yours to start become a couple and you willing yours relationship still maintain as the friendship level and say sorry to him.The most important is show your sincere that you really want to be a friend again instead avoid talk any words with him!

if over the phone is the only way you can communicate to him, i guess its the only way. but in person is so much better. just tell him tht you'd rather end the relationship now before its too late. tell him you've had a great time with him, but you'd rather be friends. but make sure you stay friends. good luck! =] ps dont be so worried about it. this way you can both move on and find someone new.

Okay just break it to him slowly. Over the phone usually isn't the prefered method of breaking up with somone but unless you want to drive up there it should be fine. Besides a cross-state relationship is really hard and it's better to move on with your life.

Just be honest with him and tell him the truth...that's the only thing you can do. It's always difficult to break-up with some, whether it's in person or over the phone. But it's something you have to do.

Just say "I can't lie to you anymore - I just want to be friends"

you might loose the friendship but you'll be happier.

Just be honest and let him know how you feel. Honesty is the best policy.
