This is a sincere question, not meant to illicit contention or sarcasm, but I noticed a lot of the questions in the religion section are answered by atheists (and asked I guess), and I thought this was a little ironic since I understand Atheism as choosing not to have religion. Are the questions found on the "All" questions page or do you search for the keyword Atheist? What brings you (the atheist) here if you don't want anything to do with religion?

OK people calm down, remember no contention. Sorry I'm not on Yahoo Answers ever two hours and I didn't know this gets asked a lot. In my own defense, usually when I type a question thats similar to one being asked, Yahoo shows me similar qustions before I submit but I honestly didn't see any this time.

Being an atheist or agnostic doesn't imply that you hate or dislike religion, or at least not much. I myself want to spread knowledge and inspire believers to critically think about their beliefs.

Atheism means not believing in a supernatural deity.

I am an atheist but enjoy participating in the R&S questions.

I don't see that as any more unusual than the fact that I am very financially responsible but enjoy responding to questions from people in the Business & Finance section who obviously are not.

Sometimes I clear up misconceptions that people have. Sometimes I point out errors in fact or errors in logic. Sometimes I point out hypocrisy. Sometimes I explain that values and religion are not the same thing. Frequently I point out that the question itself assumes things that are not true. It's intellectually stimulating.

Religion is most often taught in a vacuum to young children who have neither the power not the information to filter what tehy are being told. The R&S provides a good forum for OPEN communication without fear of retribution that one would have in a church environment.

A lot of them are trolls that come here to insult and belittle religious people. Somehow it makes them feel superior. Not all of them, but I'd say the biggest percentage. You'll notce that a lot around here, its best just to ignore those questions and sift thru trying to find legitimate questions. They have quite a few excuses, like they're trying to educate us or they believe that YA is a debate board, which of course it isn't. Debates are when people can debate back and forth, so what these people really want is a messageboard, but I guess they can't find one, so they try it here, despite the fact that its simply and question and answer board. I guess all that higher education they keep insisting they have didn't get include simple things like that.

I would agree with the person who said debate, only the truth is they are not interested in debate. To debate there has to be an accepted presentation of both sides of the subject matter. Although they do like to argue about it.erhaps these atheists are more fascinated by the eternal questions than they want to admit. hmmm- one suspects

Because we have fun seeing all of the hilarious excuses the religious people have. WAHAHAHA!!! also, if you be a christian:

I'm sorry. Uhhh... Let me try english so you can understand...

Christian bashing is always happening here, and it ought to continue until you christians realize that you do cause a lot of bad things to happen and if the concept of pleasing this "god" is so important to you then you're an idiot. Idiots take up 99% of the planet I'm going to bet. That 1% or more or less people that are aetheist understand that nothing outside our dimensions (1,2,3,4) can affect us. We realize that religion is a way to make you believe ridiculous things! That way you are controlled and you hand over money and power to these fakes like priests who are just ordinary people!

For the same reason that believers do: they think that they have found something of value, and out of good will, wish to share it. The atheists have the better case.

Because this is a place to discuss religion and spirituality. It isn't the " freaks only" section.

Atheists also know how to use the search button to search for if a question has been asked before. Apparently you aren't smart enough to do that.

Why are christians always trying to save us if we have the choice not to have a religion? No sarcasm intended, but I think the questions are very similar.

Actually atheism means you don't believe in deities. It doesn't mean you have no spiritual views or no religion (there are some w/o deities, or with deities only as symbols but not real).

it doesn't mean we don't have anything to say. A lot of us have extensive education in a variety of religions, and we also have our philosophies and ideas to share.

Atheists answer questions in the religion and spirituality section because they are interested in religion and/or spirituality.
