I have a male and a female parakeet. They are old enough and I have all the supplies for them to breed including a nesting box... the question is how to get them to breed. What should I do?

Some budgies simply won't breed as an individual pair no matter what you do. They're flock birds and sometimes need the stimulation of the others around to get to work.

Before you set them up to breed.

1. Have the pair on a good breeding diet.
2. Learn how to handfeed a chick.
3. Have the phone number of an avian vet in case your hen becomes eggbound.
4. Know what you will do with the chicks after they have weaned.
5. Be prepared that one of your birds may die because of attempting to breed.
6. Have extra calcium available for the birds and feed dark leafy greens daily.
7. Buy a book that explains the breeding cycle.

After all of that, then you can set them up to breed. Please, these are real things you will need to know for the sake of your birds.
