I have long really straight hair and it has no body what so ever. if i leave my hair long, it looks oily by noon and i shower in the morning..its so frustrating and gross!! but ive always had somewhat long hair and im kind of hesitant about cutting it off. I'm thinking about either getting a body perm in my long hair to add some volume or else cutting my hair a little shorter. what do you think? any suggestions would be great! my hair now is about to my bra strap in the back...if you were to cut is short, how short would you go? thanks!

Sounds like a couple of things going on.

First, Switch shampoos that should take care of that "oily feeling by noon" thing you have going on. It is always wise to switch shampoos periodically.

Cutting it off???

Try this :

Go to a good salon and have the stylist cut in layers on top to give your hair "body" and height.
Get those dead ends cut too.

If you decide to "cut it short" do it in steps . Go to shoulder length first

Shorter????? try below chin or better yet ask your stylist what would look best for your face shape, age and to accent your features .

If you can afford it ... go to a higher end salon.

If you're not sure about cutting it of go for a layered look. It adds volume while still having the length. Add some mouse with volumizer and blow dry up side down. If you want to go short, go for it. A lot of the volumizing products work better on short hair. I jus chopped mine really short today and am loving it. Going for a shorter cut with your kind of hair will help you look fresher and more youthful. I recently discovered sunsilk-the yellow bottles-for flat hair. Works for me. Good luck

Going short really depends on the shape of your face, also do you have the confidecne to pull of a short do?

Have you thought about layering it - maybe if you like the short layers you can think about chopping it all off.

I have the same dilema with the long hair - I've had it for 30 years and I would love short hair but i have a round face and it just wont suit me

Maybe you should ask some of your friends that know know you well and will give you an honest answer. One more thing, You said that your hair gets really greasy in the middle of the day. Maybe it is your shampoo or the products you put on your hair. Try different kinds and see what works better.

Hope it helped.

oh gosh..i had long hair as well...and i cut it.....for a while it sucks cause its like damn, i miss my hair ...but i think its so much easier just chop it off...my hair is pretty oily as well...try a good shampoo like tresseme or herbal essences that gives ure hair volume or something..pay attention to the words on the shampoo bottle front..only condition it like on the weekends..cause itll damage ure hair..also..try washing ure hair with cold water instead of warm or hot water cause it makes it more healthy and shiny. go to a sallys beauty supply and look for a cream or soemthing for ure hair to be bouncy and full...dont do perms..you will REGRET it. make sure u dont cut it wayyy to short too...just learn how to use the blow dryer and a curling iron...i normally curl my hair now...its good cause ill use it alot....my hair will grow and as soon as it gets damaged..you can cut it off cause itll keep growing..so...damage will be minimal....also last..try to use a leave in conditioner thats not too watery adn moist..like thermasilk leave in conditioner! if none of those work...do not hot oil ure hair and just go to a salon and ask a pro!

I think you should cut it short, it sounds like you need a change. remember, its just hair it will grow back. but if you're relunctant to hold on to it, trying using a volume mousse in your hair when styling. And if you want your hair to be less greasy, wash your hair less often (sounds gross I know!) but when you wash your hair too much your hair produces too much oil making it oily.

Oh the quick decrease seems attracting on you.. pass short..... whats up, in simple terms be sure the do decrease it authentic alongside your jaw line.(your face will seem longer). Have them decrease it 2 inches longer... besides whilst it moist and that they are reducing it shrinks whilst it dries... you have captivating hair......... you need to even get it shoulder length and it may seem captivating and you will nonetheless placed it up in case you pick and function diverse hairstyles.... As we strengthen older and we've long hair, the long hair has a tendency to furnish an phantasm and pull our face downward..

I would use a cleansing and bodifying shampoo, and cut about four inches off.

(By the way, a secret trick - mix a pinch of baking soda into your shampoo in your palm before putting it in your hair. The baking soda will remove excess scalp oil.)

You can always try something new. When my hair was long, it was harder to wash and harder to take care of. When I cut it up to my shoulder, it had more volume and plump my face. It dries fast. If you do decide to keep it long, layer it up.

I would say go for a short choppy look, probobly about 2 or 3in below your earlobe. Then add mouse for volume...It doesnt work on my hair becuase its super curly, but I've seen friends do it and its SUPER CUTE :)
