it's in my pointing finger on my good hand - so its really and literally a pain..

I'm thinking to take an x-acto blade and slice it open (!) to deep and long to use tweezers or pin - soaking hasn't worked

thoughts?

If you know which end the splinter went in; just take a fingernail and push the nail on the other end where the splinter is. It will push it out.
I you don't know which end it went in; take a sterile needle (burn the end of a sewing needle with a match until the tip turns red, let it cool) and pick a tiny hole where the splinter is and push the splinter from the other end until it comes out. If the splinter is a really long one, you can attack it from the end and somewhere in the middle. Once you do one; you'll know what to do the next time. Wash off everything (Your hands) when you're through with soap and water to kill any germs. Put a band aide on it if it's really bad.

Being in the cactus business, I've had a few myself. If it is too deep or to tight, or just won't budge, try to keep the entry hole open, even if you can't reach the splinter. Soaking is good, but if it just won't come out, cover it with some padded tape, keep it open, and as it infects, after about 3 or 4 days give it a try, as you will find , with a little help, it should slide right out.

In that location I would go have a surgeon take care of it if it needed cutting. You can remove it, but cutting to do so could compromise function and sensation (the "feeling") in that very important finger.

Try soaking in warm water and it if can't be removed (using a tweezer) without making a cut then have your doctor take a look.

Wash the area well. My grandmother put a piece of fatback on my deeply embedded splinter and then put a band aid on it. The next morning the splinter was completely out. I guess it was the salt in the meat.

You need to remove it. It won't come out by itself and it could become infected. If it is deep, let a Dr. remove it under sterile conditions.

I've usually used a sterilized utility knife and lots for dis-infectant, and dig them out.
If you leave them in and they are too deep to work themselves out, it will get infected and lead to an abcess.
Besides, they are irritating.

Sterilize a needle with alcohol, gouge it out.

put tape on you finger, pull it off, that might just remove it. Or try white glue and let it dry on there and pull it off. It neither works, put a bandaid on it.
