I'm scheduled for the procedure at 12 weeks & 5 days. Thanks for your help!

Of course, I will follow my doctor's instructions. He's telling me to "take it easy" for 2 days, and that the pain should be fairly minor. I was wondering if I'll feel up to taking a trip 4 days after the procedure. Can anyone tell me what to expect from this procedure, especially early in a pregnancy? Thanks!

By the way, I was diagnosed with an incompetent cervix during my last pregnancy due to a cone biopsy. That's why we knew that I needed a cerclage for this pregnancy.

I had one done at 16 weeks as a extra precaution due to my miscarriage history. the pain was not that bad... i had really good drugs . I was actually on bed rest at the time they did it so my restrictions may have been more then yours will be. Usually it is about 48 - 72 hours of resting easy. I went above and beyond and did a good week on my side.

The 4 hour trip by car... that would be up to your good judgment and advice from your doctor. I would stack up on pillows so the ride is not bumpy for you (i like the mini bean bags... nice and cushy)

Congrats on your pregnancy!

RE:
How is the recovery from a cervical cerclage procedure? How long until I'm able to make a 4-hour trip by car?

It will depend on what type of anesthesia is used mostly, but it will be a few days to weeks. It would be best to ask your doctor. And while you are asking that you may wish to ask if he or she is familiar with the recent literature and studies which do not show any benefit from the procedure, specifically:

Best of Luck.

You Dr is best to answer this question...You should be resting a lot if you need a cerclage done. I woul dwait as long as the Dr tells me too...especially when it concerns my unborn child.
