I got braces yesterday and they hurt really bad. I also got bite stoppers so my molars don't touch anymore. My front tooth on the bottom keeps hitting it and everytime it does, it hurts really really really bad. What sooths the best (I don't take medication) and what is good to eat now?

For the pain (and I do understand your adversion to medications) try a frozen wash cloth, or you might actually want to get some ora-jel (Ora-jel numbs the area temporarily. It's not addictive, mood altering or dangerous in any form.) It's cheap, too!

I had major facial reconstruction with braces and plates and screws. I don't do meds either, but the ora-jel was a life saver. I will pray for you.

Oh, eating...hmmm pudding, jello, mashed taters, applesauce...just lots of soft stuff - uh, cold if you can tolerate it so the swelling doesn't hurt so much. :) kudos!

My daughter just got braces 2 weeks ago and she was miserable for the first week. You NEED to take ibuprofen for the inflamation(it helps with the pain too) 200-400mgs should be good. She had to drink slim fast through a straw and pudding, mashed potatoes anything soft that you dont have to put your teeth together to chew. Have you tried brace wax? Hang in there honey...You will have beautiful teeth in a couple years

that's completely normal, i just got braces today and they HURT! just try not to let your teeth touch and eat warm food, on the first couple of days i don't recommend pasta, that was kinda painful! i suggest soup and some liquids like water or juice, NO SODAS! (that's what my orthodontist told me...about the soda thing) and i suggest you start taking some ibuprofen too, it is the best pain killer! good luck and i hope you end up with a very pretty smile!

Bite the biter that the orthodonist gave you. Your muscles will loosen up in a few days. Take a tynenol for the pain and drink with a straw and eat soft foods. The more you work your jawls the more it will loosen.

U r going to have to take some tylenol or advil, its the only way. Stick to foods like ice cream and applesauce, pudding.. anything soft. U might be able to eat KD... try smothies. THe first time is the worst. its always going to be painful but 1st is always the worst.

i've had braces for a while, but whenever i go get them tightened i still feel the pain of pressure. But you've gotta understand that pressure is what you feel from the drastic change that your mouth is having to face now. The best medication is time and soft, easy to chew foods.

food recommendations:
- soup
- macaroni
- pasta (soft and well-cooked)
- soft fruits like banana, kiwi, loichee, strawberry, orange

also, i dunno about other people but cold stuff usually made my teeth ache more. i found it best to stick with warm to kinda hot foods cuz they were soothing.

Eat really cold ice cream, and put it on the inside of your upper lip, above your front teeth. It feels soooo good! Also, put it anywhere else on your gums that hurts. That's pretty much the only thing that worked for me.

I started getting braces in October.

Yes it is true, they REALLY hurt in the first week. It goes away.

You might have take tyenol. It helps, really.

You should only eat SOFT foods....
Apple Sauce
Pudding
Soup
..........

This will all turn out good in the end.

No pain, No gain. hun.
