The main causes of headaches are swelling of the brain, which cause blood vessels to either constrict or dilate, resulting in excess pressure around the brain. This pressure is felt as pain by pressoreceptors around the brain and is what cause your typical headache. There are other factors that contribute to headaches, but this is the main reason. Often inhaling harmful fumes will cause this to happen. Hope this helps!

I have suffered from migraines and headaches since I was 8, now I am 36. I get them for variety of reasons. Too much caffeine when I was in high school and college years to stay up to study. One doctor said to stop caffeine all together then they were worse. I was getting rebound headaches. I know now that I can safely drink 2 cans of soda a day and my headaches aren't affected by the caffeine. If i don't have any caffeine in 2-3 days I start getting a headaches in the base of my skull and it goes into the center of my brain. Then I drink a soda and in an hour it's gone.
I have been on and off many drugs over the years. Don't know if you want to go this route. If you do, you need to see a neurologist. Imitrex helps me alot.
I also get headaches if I sleep in on the weekends I've noticed so I try to wake up at the same time on the weekend as I do on the weekdays. I get about 7 hours of sleep each night. And I ride bikes with my son during spring and summer months in the evening. 30-60 minutes of riding has helped my headaches be less also.
There are those days that my head feels like a ticking bomb and I have to lay down with a towel over my eyes and an icepack on the back of my neck for a few hours. I see a neurologist every 3 months now and I think I am on the right meds. No longer taking Tylenol (alot is bad for your liver) and 1-2 cans of soda a day. I still have a tiny headaches in my temples every day but it lots better than it was a year ago. My doc also told me that headaches/migraines are also inherited to an extent. My birthmother (I'm adopted) has migraines also.
Good luck. Email me if you'd like to know more of what i've all had to do over the years.

If you suffer from migraines, it may be triggered from dehydration. You'd be surprized how many people find relief by just drinking 17 oz of water in 10 minutes.
If it's headaches, it still could be eyes due to strain. How long are you in front of your pc, do you have glasses with proper filtering?
It could also be triggered by a food additive. You may want to consider keeping a food journal. The more detailed, the more useful it would be in tracking a culprit down.
Good luck.

It can be neurological, so you might need a MRI scan.
It can also be due to other problems like illnesses.
As well you might have stress, so you might need to take some time off.
I often find that when I'm having a headache is because I'm tired so I take a nap and feel much better.
It can also be your blood pressure.
Something you ate as well.
Now, if you have cluster headaches there is no way to cure them I'm afraid.

It can be cheese or chocolate sometimes. If you are a man the other reason I get migraine will not be valid for you, if a woman it may be worth checking if its a monthly headache!

I always had terrible headaches, until i stopped eating dairy products. I don't recommend going off of it, because it's kinda drastic, but really, I haven't had them in 2 years. maybe you should check with an allergy dr. and see if you have any unknown allergys?

Tension, staring at monitor too long, reading in a bad light, migraine, poor posture, the list is quite long.
