If you have a male finch and don't want babies, boil the egg before putting it back. You will have to do this with all the eggs she lays in the clutch. Let her sit on the eggs until she gives up on them and then throw them away.

Make sure that she has cuttlebone to replace the calcium in her system. Laying eggs is really hard on the hen. You can also feed her dark leafy greens to replace the calcium.

If you want them to hatch and have a male, just let nature take it's course. It is extremely difficult to handfeed a finch, so be prepared for losses if this is their first clutch. Most "first time parents" don't know quite what to do and will have problems.

I would put the egg in the nest and set the nest on/in the food dish, or at least in the same location. I don't think she can move it...

Put soft gloves on and carefully place egg in nest. She'll be unable to move it herself. Good luck from fellow breeder!

First things first - has she sat on the egg? Quite often these are unfertilised eggs - hold it to the light & see if anythings in there..

Move it to the nest & hope she sits on it - even if its not viable - it might encourage her to sort herself out...

God - wish it was that easy with womem... ;) grin

Raising a baby bird is a lot of work, and if you let the mom do it, the bird will not be friendly.

I would (and do) throw eggs away when they appear.

Also, you don't mention a poppa bird. Is the momma the only bird? If so, then your egg will not hatch anyway, and you HAVE to throw it away. And either way, give your bird some extra calcium in her diet so she doesn't develop a definciency.
