How could they call themselves christian and then kill someone? Killing someone in the name of god sounds like present day terrorists. I thought one of the commandments said thou shalt not kill?

Because most civilized countries have long since realized that most of the people burned were not witches, they were simply people that other people wanted out of the way and an excuse for the church to claim their property.

According to a Rabbi I know the actual translation is "Thou shalt not suffer a poisoner(of wells) to live. Considering the environment, that makes sense to me as a rule; a poisoned well is a hazard to hundreds, if not thousands of people. So a poisoner of wells would be the lowest of the low.

I would assume the majority of people decided to use common sense, rather than keep believing in superstitious nonsense. Witches now days are just people who follow their own beliefs, but none can actually fly around on broomsticks or change a person into a toad. I'll believe they can when I see it happen.

Truth was...there was no such thing as a "real" witch....christians did this as a "scare tactic" to influence the "pure" state of the community because they were all Puritans..and that Exodus 22:18 refers to one who worships the evil ways of the devil....and by the way...isnt the first commandment thou shall not kill?....what a contradiction....

oh, they want to! witches, atheists, muslims, anyone who has been 'taken in' by satan, they really want to burn them to "save them"

not all, mind you. just quite a few of them.

fireball- the witch trials were LONG after jesus' era, and you have made quite a few judgements on atheists, so don't deny it. it makes you look 2 faced.

Maybe for the same reason we no longer stone children for talking back to their parents, or people who have (gasp) sex out of wedlock. Seems to me like it was very popular in the bible, to stone people to death for any little indiscretion.

IT TAKES A LONG TIME TO COOK A WITCH AND NOW-A-DAYS PEOPLE LIKE " FAST FOOD ".. ALSO NOW-A-DAYS THERE ARENT MANY BROOMS AROUND SO IT HAS GROUNDED THE WITCHES , KEEPING THEM FROM GETTING TO HEAVEN BEFORE THE CHRISTIANS, WHICH MADE THE CHRISTIANS VERY JEALOUS.

They discovered that roasting marshmallows was more fun and conveniently discarded this Christian favorite pastime and replaced that with gay bashings. But when that falls out of favor you can bet they will find another Bible quote to follow against another group.

I secretly started handing out Nomex flightsuits... so it's harder to burn 'em. The Christians got frustrated and started on us LGBTs instead.
