You should first address the reason as to why you hate sleeping at night, so I would tell my doctor and ask to be referred to a sleep disorders clinic, or to someone specialising in the treatment of people with similar problems. Exercise strenuously for 30 - 60 mins daily, but not within 2 hrs of bedtime, and nothing exciting in that time, like TV, loud music, or even reading, unless it is something boring. No coffee or tea within 6 hrs of bedtime. Take Melatonin early in the evening, or Valerian root later (from health food and vitamin stores, or some supermarkets); try to avoid taking, for extended periods of time, over the counter medications like Nyquil or TylenolPM, but they may help, at first. Have a warm bath, with lavender oil, before bedtime, or a warm shower, and put a few drops of it on your pillow, then a glass of very warm milk, or Sleepytime (from Celestial Seasonings), Peppermint, or Chamomile tea. Don't nap during the day, and keep your bed for sleeping only, and your bedroom should be very dark, when the lights are off. Stick to a pre-sleep routine, so your unconscious mind knows that it is time to prepare to go to sleep. In bed, with the lights out, count backwards from 150, and if you make a mistake, start again. Write these tips down, so you will not forget them.

First of all are you on any other meds? Second of all what are you doing right before you go to bed? My suggestion is taking the supplement Melatonin. It is the natural, i guess you could call it a hormone, that makes you sleepy. They sell it at most stores. Another thing that you could do is to try chamomile tea. It is very relaxing and should help you sleep.

Hello, just wanted to let you know of a miracle pill that puts you to sleep, available over the counter, is actually very very beneficial for your health, and is only 3 bucks!! I had trouble falling asleep for years. I would lay in bed, and think and think and think for hours before I could fall asleep. It was literally driving me crazy!! I had tried every over the counter sleeping pill on the market and nothing helped. I turned to Nyquil and that did the trick. I had been drinking Nyquil almost every night to go to sleep until I stumbled upon this miracle sanity saving nutritional supplement named MELATONIN. And you can buy it at any GNC health food store. I advocate GNC because the melatonin they use goes through 85 different quality checks before its bottled. Buy the sublingual melatonin. The kind that dissolves underneath your tongue tastes like cherries and it’s good for you!! I was shocked at the effectiveness in putting me to sleep. If you have any questions before you buy it the sales associate at GNC should be able to answer any questions you have. It comes in 1 mg, I take 2 right before bed. The only side effects are weird dreams for the first two nights if any at all. Must take the sublingual kind from GNC for potency, should be taken at regular bedtimes in the evening.
God Bless
P.S. after you try it and it works don’t forget to tell others about it. You could be saving someone else’s Sanity

If you want to try a sleeping aid for a short time, I think you should be able to. Your age has nothing to do with it. You are having trouble sleeping and it is affecting your life. Short term sleeping pills do not hurt you. If you are otherwise healthy, I would think you could find a doctor who would prescribe something for you for a month or so. If you get "in the habit of sleeping," it should come easier for you.

young age of 22?
I'd see a different doctor. My neurologist gave me some ambien when I complained about insomnia when I was 24.

why do you hate sleeping at night. Do you try to sleep and can't or do you try to stay awake?
