Does it just end in divorce? Since she obviously doesn't keep the lover as a second husband as the men can do when they have an affair. What usually ends up happening with the marriage?

Hi there,
E.T.01, Rana E and mrb1017 have answered the question thoroughly... Adultery is adultery... weather it's the man or the woman cheating.. the punishment is the same for the sinner... So, women are not suppressed, as some people claim... Though some 'muslims' can do so.. But, according to Islam men and women have equal rights... rewards are equal and punishment is equal....

Peace...

Shari'ah law only provides for punishment in cases of adultery, if both parties admit to have committed the "crime". If this is not the case, four independent witnesses have to be found; however, the witnesses must be male. If the male witnesses are found then the woman can be stoned to death, but this isn't likely to happen as much in today's world. They would most likely just divorce and after the woman had cheated on her husband, no other man would marry her. In the case of the man having an affair, he couldn't just take the woman as a second wife afterwards...he would have to be married to her before having sex with her or it would still be adultery and the same rules with witnesses apply. The only thing is that it's not very likely that if someone is cheating that they will be seen by four witnesses while in the act. Most people just get away with it honestly...but most Muslim women would not cheat on their husbands because Muslim men have to treat their woman very good and the ones that don't treat them well are usually bedouins...

It's up to her husband to forgive her or not. If he chooses not to, then he might resort to divorce. Basically, there's no specific rule.

But you need to clarify what type of cheating u r talking about, because if you mean adultery, then Islam considers it a sin for both sexes. If the person doesn't repent (ie, feel guilty, doesn't do the sin again, and does good deeds), therefore Islam has set certain and equal punishment for them, whether they be man or woman.

EDIT: Please don't listen to those people in here. They have no idea what they are talking about and are just repeating the old stereotypes against Muslims.

If any person commits adultery (as i said, whether it be man or woman), they have to admit the sin or four witnesses had to be present if the punishment is to take place.

Of course, it's nearly impossible to find four witnesses in most cases, and Islam has said that in purpose as a way of showing mercy to those who fall into this shameful and scandalous sin. Islam has preferred people to repent adultery than to set the punishment because of the sin's disreputable and shameful consequences.

However, if the sinner admits or 4 witnesses do, then the punishment must be set if the sinner did not repent. Both man and woman get equal punishment. The type of punishment depends on certain conditions.

It depends on where she's at. In some countries, cultural customs and religious fanatics would have a horrific punishment for her. In more modern countries and cultures, she would probably have the option of simply divorcing.

Then the husband can divorce her. I can't believe all of the lies on here. How do people make up this stuff? They can also repent and be forgiven.

Murder.

In western countries, they will be the victims of honor killing, after which the husbad will go to jail.

In Islamic countries, she can be legally murdered by the husbad or other relatives OR she will be sentenced to death, often via stoning.

Google it. Every word I say is accurate. Of course, there are exceptions, but the exceptions are usually chosen by the man. If the husband doesnt want to see her get killed, he can actively seek to conceal the event for her protection, as will on occasion occur.

In the United States or other developed nations they would probably divorce or something. For 3rd world nations I think it depends on the person and the country, but it could go pretty far. Rape, murder, stoning, imprisonment, execution, etc.

Rape is not punished by death in islam. That is the law of only one country--nowhere in the hadith will you find any kind of punishment for rape victims. The punishment for adultery is severe for both men and women. But the punishment of death is only in very strict countries. My cousin's friend divorced his wife because of that. They live in Pakistan. No one was stoned to death. If someone accuses another of adultery, 4 witnesses are needed according to islam.

What does the Quran say, see the 2nd verse:

Death is not the punishment!!

In some hardcore countries, adulteresses are stoned. Unfortunately, the same penalty applies to sex outside marriage -- even if the wome is raped. She can still be put to death for it.

For Muslim women in democratic societies, I'm not sure if remarriage is possible or not.
