Lead is a toxic heavy metal with many known and unknown biological effects. It can induce oxidative stress which is a known contributor to the process of carcinogenesis. It also binds and disrupts cell membranes and cellular proteins. Additionally, it may have pro-inflammatory effects - this is critical because cancer is known to be an inflammatory disease. Lead is believed to be a human carcinogen based on animal and human studies.
Here is a quote from a recent study published in the U.S. govt.'s leading research journal on environmental medicine (Environmental Health Perspectives, 2006 Oct;114(10):1538-41. "Blood lead levels and death from all causes, cardiovascular disease, and cancer: results from the NHANES III mortality study"): "blood lead levels as low as 5-9 mug/dl were associated with an increased risk of death from all causes, cardiovascular disease and cancer".
Hope you find this helpful. Best wishes.

It sounds like you read a tag that is mandated by the california nuts. Lead can get in your blood stream just by coming in contact with it. The good news is that the amount required to make a difference is almost impossible to come in contact with. You would almost have to work in a lead factory and have it for lunch.
