I don't know, this is another of those contradictions that I don't understand. I get the distinction between "kill" and "murder", what I don't get is the difference that has for the "authorized" killer and those being killed.

How many times in the Bible does it speak of women and children being "killed" (not "murdered"), yet these weren't soldiers, they were innocent. Why did they have to be killed? They were just as dead whether killed or murdered. Why are their deaths acceptable?

From a spiritual standpoint it doesn't make sense. From a tactical or political point of view (for that period in time) and in the short run (NOT the long view) in made sense. So while I can accept that those that wrote these passages FELT justified in what they did, I must wonder if God was really behind them. Isn't God the creator of everyone? Why would he favor one nations children over another nations? Why does one group deserve life and the other deserve death?

And, yes, I have heard "do not lean unto your own understanding" and "you can't judge God", and " humans can't understand God's mind or intentions so just have faith" but I'm sorry in the face of dead children, dead women, dead families...I can't. I never could.

Since Father K gave you your Hebrew lesson, I won't repeat. Murder versus war. So according to many who answered here, the USA should not even exist, because it began with a W-A-R, the Revolutionary War. Hitler should have just gone on slaughtering until he completed his plan, because to go to W-A-R would mean killing somebody. The examples of W-A-R, and thus killing, that saved your neck and mine, or made our rather cushy life possible goes on and on.

Murder is a sin. War is horrible and should be avoided, if at all possible. When it must be fought, you cannot call the soldiers murderers.

Also, for the record... the ten commandments were written to the Hebrews, not Christians. Our ten commandments are summed up in this:
Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. And love your neighbor as yourself.

No Christians I know support murder. And many don't "support" war as much as they support our country and the protection of our citizens. The New Testament tells us that God placed government officials in place "with a sword" so that they may kill the bad and protect the innocent. And that we are to support our government. So who are we to say that God is wrong and that the government shouldn't protect the innocent. And I don't know anybody that was in war planning sessions or heard the evidence so I can't make a determination about those things. I can say this:

I support my country. I support my government. I support our troops. I support my God. I'll leave the actions and results of those actions to a loving a merciful Lord!

Be blessed.

You make several false assumptions.

The Bible says "you shall not MURDER", not kill. There is a difference between murdering and killing. Sometimes we have to kill in order to maintain order, law, and national security. Murder is the selfish taking of life. God has said we are not allowed to murder because life is for Gods to take, not our own.

Even if you dont agree with whatever president is in the white house, we should always support our troops and not try to undermine war efforts. Sometimes we are our own worst enemies.

Whos murdering Gods children? And who are Gods children?

Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— -John 1:12

Only people that are reborn under Jesus are Gods children. We are all creations of God, not all his children.

War and death arent pretty but they are often necessary in order to stop tyrany and maintain govt. Everybody thinks tyrany died after the revolutionary war, it didnt. It is constantly at our doorstep and outside the free world. If you recall, in 2001 the WTC was bombed and brought down. Over 5000 people died that day thanks to liberals back in the 90's not taking Al Queda seriously.

Even the angels fight wickedness. I don't think the war is about killing innocents. You should take your blinders off and see that it has to do with:
Submit yourselves therefore to God, resist the devil, and he will flee from you -James 4:7.
And more importantly:
Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends -John 15:13.
Sorry you would lay down everyone's lives, surrender to evil, and forget that God has justice in this world and the next.
After all, you there is no use in turning the other cheek to a mad dog.

That also confuses me. Wasn't there several biblical battles in the bible? I wonder if God sees our purpose as a righteous cause to kill others. I do understand that in a war in biblical times, the two parties who were fighting were either the people of God and the invaders. But this situation is different. I also believe that we should not kill. Especially in war. But it has always been that way, war is horrible. I hope you find your answer.

THOU SHALT NOT KILL!

I think it is plain and straight forward. Sometimes I don't get it myself. What I do understand is that you should not go out there and kill people just for killing sakes. But one cannot just sit back and allow the enemy to come in and attack one's country and do absolutely nothing about it. One has to defend one's country. If you sit back and allow others to kill out everyone in your country, isn't that like committing murder also for not trying to protect others?

Just trying to make a little sense here.

It clearly says "Thou shall not murder". The Lord sanctioned wars in the Bible. He commanded the Israelites to go into battle. There is a difference.

Murder or Kill
It is still a life taken
And the karma for that is great
Have you ever thought when the troops come home from war
Why they come home to have nothing suffer the rest of their lives with the injuries from the war or get Cancer they suffer have you ever asked yourself why ?
It is Karma to live the rest of their lives here in hell to suffer for the lives they have taken directly or indirectly.
We are suppose to be living with Love and Kindness and all we have in the World is Greed, Power, Control and with the "Anger"

Let the light of Love shine down on all

Love & Blessings

It's "Thou shalt not murder," actually.

No, war is NOT "okay." However, sometimes it's necessary. For example, in WWII. Besides, even if a war isn't "necessary," a soldier still has to go where their country tells them to. And in war, they have two choices: Kill, or be killed.
It is not a sin for them to kill in cases like that. It is, however, a sin if they kill someone with hatred in their heart. In that case, it IS murder, and does need to be forgiven.

And actually, for future reference:
The word that "homosexual" is translated from is μαλακός, which is pronounced mal-ak-os. It means effeminate.

As for the Ten Commandments, here we go:
The word for "kill" is actually רצח in Hebrew, which is pronounced raw-tsakh. It is a "primitive root; properly to dash in pieces, that is, kill (a human being), especially to murder: - put to death, kill, (man-) slay (-er), murder (-er)."

From e-Sword, which includes Hebrew and Greek words for EVERY word in the Bible.
