Ahhhh hon, I'm right there with you. I knew for months - years - that I needed to do something, yet I thought I was smart enough to figure it out myself. I finally started therapy last year and it is great - I call it my "mental colonic." Also, because of some stressful times these past few months, I started on Lexapro (hopefully short term) but the difference is HUGE. I can't believe I let myself suffer like that for so long and I feel so great right now. It also helps to overhaul your diet if you're eating like crap (I was) and exercise regularly. Good luck!

I ignored it until I thought I was going mad. All those expressions Id heard before, like sinking into a black hole, or drowning, not caring if I lived or died and just feeling apathetic, punctuated by moments of panic. Being tired all the time but not sleeping. headaches that lasted for days.

I couldnt pray for myself.

I got antidepressants from my doc. They didnt make me happy but they stopped me feeling so sad all the time. After a few weeks I started sleeping. I was able to change some things in my life. After a while I began to feel I could cope with life again. Eventually I remembered how to smile. :-)

I took pills for 6 months then reduced them which was scary because I was afraid of feeling half dead again but Im fine now. This was nearly 2 years ago.

Go see the doc and get some help. Even if the pills work they take at least 2 weeks to make any difference and its a gradual thing. Some people need to change to a different medication.

They say 1 in 3 people suffer from mental health problem at some time in their life. My experience is that it is often the strong people who get depression- maybe they fight it so long where others give in or get help sooner.

So, you are not alone and there is help out there.

Good Luck :-)

Oh dear, depression affects everyone regardless of how you look. i'm glad to hear that you're getting an appointment so a physician can assess the severity of your case...you may just need some talk therapy (which helped me) or maybe medication may be considered. Certainly, ignoring the problem only makes it worse and you would feel more isolated in your pain. Herbal supplements sometimes help people but with less secure results than taking antidepressants..since they actually re-adjust the chemical imbalances in the brain involving serotonin...feel better and good luck!

Over the last five years I had begun to have increasingly withdraw into a downward spiral of depression..

But now with the method I can fully focus my energy and thoughts into a decisive line on how to make my life better constantly. And it works like magic! I'm beginning to attract people to me once again and things have just been looking up since then.

Helping you eliminate depression?

Do get help whatever you do! Depression hurts! I fought it for several years before I was finally diagnosed and it was like a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders. I couldn't figure out how I ever missed that my problem was depression; I thought it was everything and everybody else. There's lots of good meds out there and a doc is the only one to make a match for you, but I will tell you that things like eating right and exercising will make a big difference, too. Good luck and get feeling better! It made a huge impact on my life.

I have recurrent depression and things got real bad! I didn't want to get medication, I tried everything I knew. I did finally go and see the doctor, he gave me anti depressants but I didn't take them. When he found out he asked to speak to my husband and between them they got me to realise I had to do something.

So, I'm still on antidepressants, I am well at the moment, but I am sooo grateful to my doc. who pushed things forward for me.

You'll probably be prescribed antidepressants and be started on a low dose which will gradually increase. They do take around 2 to 3 weeks to become properly effective.

Then you also need to make sure that you keep occupied with anything. You may not feel like doing stuff but, it is important....the drugs can only do so much. Make sure you do one thing a day that is selfish and for you.

Exercise as you probably know, releases feel good hormones so that will definitely help. Thing is, exercise is sometimes the last thing you feel like if your down...but even a brisk walk WILL definitely help.

I'm glad you're getting help. Get well soon.

Best wishes

I have suffered from it, I think it was situational in large part, I don't currently take anything for it but would and will if ever needed. More people suffer from depression than who don't, so that should tell us all something. Good luck to you. I wouldn't take anything, including herbal remedies without talking to an MD first - just because it's herbal or natural doesn't mean it's safe or effective. God bless...

It sucks more than you can imagine. If you have depression, the worse you have it the less that you think you need help.
There are a lot of different therapies out there. Don't give up if the first one or two treatments don't get you back to normal. Give your doctor a little time to help.

you can get far more accomplished in a depressed state than, say, a manic state. aim fort the middle. but i am a copy writer and get so much more done and make money when i am depressed. may sound odd, but true for a lot of associates, too. not so depressed that you are on the floor requiring electric shock treatment, but yukky and maybe a little sick. but in the bipolar state, that is manic, i don't want to write, i just want fornicate, fight, sky dive and chase jack rabbits.

One book said that about half the US population is depressed at some point in their lives. Depression is extremely common. If you go to a movie theater and toss a bag of popcorn in the air, the odds are that popcorn will hit someone with depression.
