Nuns and Sisters are two different kinds of Religious women who have dedicated their lives to God.
Nuns live in cloisters and earn a living where they live. They do not teach school or work outside of their convents in parishes or hospitals.
At one time all women Religious were Nuns.
When some began to leave the cloister and work in schools, hospitals, orphanages, i.e. outside of their convents, they became known as "Sisters."
Both Nuns and Sisters take vows of celibacy, obedience and poverty.
Nuns can be called Sisters and Sisters have often been called Nuns.

Keep in mind that the catholic church is patriarchal, meaning that men are the ones with positions of power/authority.

That reason is why priests are referred to as "father", while nuns are referred to as "sister". Its all about the authority conferred with the title.

Because they are a closeknit body of women, bound together by specific ties. Members of other female groups also refer to themselves as "sisters". Sororities for example. Not to mention members of many Protestant denominations.
There are also Catholic "brothers", unordained members of various religious orders for men.

Some Christians refer to everyone of their faith as their brothers and sisters. We are all God's children. I don't like that they call priests Father though, because that distinction is for God only.

i think it is b/c they give up tehir normal lives 2 become children of God, and so they are all sisters, as they are God's daughters.

Because they value the inbreeding story that the Bible tells and so thus we are all brothers and sisters.
