Kerry, I can see that you are very serious about this question, and that you would like to find a way to make whatever has happened to you go away, to forget that it all happened.
I don't know what it was, but I can hear that it was very painful.
I do understand wanting to beable to forget horrible memories. Im 48yrs old and still having to work through so much, in therapy.
Now I know that you understand by reading all your answers from here and in the other forum, that you can't induce amnesia.
Pain is like a tunnel. You have to drive right through it, you can't go around it because there is no road, but driving through that tunnel there is always that promise of the light at the end of it. There is light at the end of youre pain, but I'm sorry you need to go through it. Talk to people you trust... see a counselor. The horrible pain does get better, but you must keep walking through that tunnel, by talking.

Wow. Hiding from the problems won't get you any further than where you are today.

Say you are able to induce amnesia - what happens when you get your memory back.

see a therapist and work out the issues - god only gives you what you can handle. There is a reason for where you are today. You might not understand now, but you will someday.

I'm reluctant to answer this although I realize you are serious and I am sorry for the pain you are experiencing. If you have been through a trauma and are having difficulty coping, I would suggest that you talk with a psychiatrist about a possible trial of Inderal (propranolol). It will not induce amnesia, but it has recently been shown to be effective sometimes in reducing the intense physiological arousal associated with traumatic memories and can reduce acute PTSD symptoms. Erasing your memory would not be healthy nor warranted in any circumstance.

Amnesia can not be conciously induced. There are many defense mechanisms that your brain can develop to protect itself from certain memories, but it is done on an unconcious level. Defense mechanisms are developed when you feel theatened constantly or when certain memories provoke instense feelings that your psyche does not feel it can handle emotionaly.
