I use 3 programs to deal with spyware/adaware.

Run Spybot and Adaware weekly.

I've heard people say Ad-Aware, Spy Sweeper and even McAfee. Recently I had some adware that was nearly crippling my PC and the only program that got rid of it successfully was SuperAntiSpyware.
