Plus I live in a corn field with a bunch of hillbillies!! LOL So it doesn't take too much to facinate them. But yet I want it to be nice and I want it to be the greatest day of my life like it's supposed to.

Just because you live in a cornfield, and your family does not have any conception of a good wedding or a bad wedding, or what weddings cost, doesn't mean that you cannot have a beautiful wedding. It depends on yours and your fiance's finances. That is the key to this. Also if you can get some help from parents. If not, and you have some money, you can have a beautiful wedding with a reception, food, flowers, church wedding, gown, invitations, for approximately $5,000, but you can go up from there. There are weddings for $10,000, 20,000, 30,000, 40,000, 50,000 and for the rich where money is no object it could be 500,000 to $1,000,000. So, cost is relative to your finances. You take it from there. But I will say this, there is a beautiful wedding for every pocketbook. Go to Borders or order from Borders.com or Amazon.com and get a book, "Weddings on a Budget". Best of Luck

all the decorations & other add-ons dont make the day any more memorable if you are stressed out . keep things simple - BUT make sure the celebration reflects the personality fo you & your fiance.
you might like to consider using ""your cornfield"" as part of a theme for your day.
some people will say that the idea is **Tacky** - BUT you could have a ''bring a plate '' reception to keep costs down
decide on a menu & ask the guest to contribute a particular dish - if doing this then you would probably ask they provide a dish rather than a gift.
otherwise set a budget that you can afford & find creative ways to keep within that budget.
for your gown & your attendants you can look outside the square of **wedding attire** as often outfits that are just as suitable for the occassion can be found in other stores
your wedding dress is that ONLY because it is waht you ahve chosen to be married in- there again it should reflect your personality

we had 15 people ; got married in a court house & had a picnic lunch in a botanical gardens . I felt my day was just as fantastic as that of my sisters who both had the full church ceremony & catered reception for 50-80 people

it really is what you & your fiance will feel comfortable with
DO NOT go into debt to host your reception

If you are marrying the man you want to spend the rest of your life with, it should automatically be the greatest day of your life. :)

I'd say $5000 is a good amount for a wedding. You can always go much cheaper or expensive, but this way you can get some nice things as long as you make sure you save on others.

That question is pretty relative ... I have seen a lot of couples who pay for their own weddings only spend 15-20k, sometimes less. Then I've seen couples whose parents foot the entire bill and pay well over 50-60k. It just really depends where you are in your life and how much you can afford based on who is paying and income levels. Pay for what you can afford ... the most important thing should be you and your fiance exchanging vows and sharing that with your closest family and friends!!

My sister just got married and she had a beautiful wedding and only spent about a total of $1,000. Go to the wedding aisle in Wal Mart, Hobby Lobby, or any craft store. You can really save a lot of money. There really isn't a set limit on weddings. It doesn't matter if you spend $1 or $1,000,000 you can't put a price on a life time of happiness.

Too much is mortgaging your house or selling your firstborn so that you can pay for your wedding.

Make a budget--spend what you can COMFORTABLY afford! If you are really stretching yourself too thin, then that's too much for you.

Spend what you're comfortable with that makes your day feel magical and special!

Remember, the wedding is about joining two lives, not breaking the bank!

Congrats!

Too much on a wedding would be if you go into debt before you even say "I do".

It should be how much you can afford without taking out a loan or asking family to help you pay for it.

Depends on what type of wedding you wanna have. But in my opinion, with close family & friends is definitely better, & less expensive. Im getting married on the 24th (March 2007) & I dont think weve spent $3000 for everything. Good luck!

The marriage is more important then the wedding. So, if your wedding puts you into debt than its not a great way to start the marriage. I would keep it small and simple focus on being a good spouse and having a solid foundation for your marriage then on the wedding.

Too much is when you can't afford the wedding. Our wedding cost a total of $5000 , just for the ceromony and we were really pushing it.
