Why choose, cats are great inside animals. Cats are more homebody's more fun to snuggle with critter on your lap while you are reading or watching TV. They require less attention than dogs usually. Cats don't bark at the neighbors. Dogs are a lot of fun outside. The running, the ball chasing the enthusiasm. No matter where you go they want to go too. So I would say a cat if you do not have a yard and can't walk them everyday and a dog if you have a yard and the space that a dog needs to be happy.

I like both but for different reasons. I like that cats are independent. I feel privileged when my cat wants to spend some with me. I like that she doesn't bug me all day for a pat and she just comes and goes as she pleases.
I like dogs because they are not independent and rely on you for love and affection. They love you company and they are more social. You can do more with dogs take them places etc. But at the moment i don't have time for a dog with a 1 yo around so the cat suits my lifestyle.
When the kids get older and they have some responsibility i want a dog then to come away with us and to show the kids about how to be responsible to something even though sometimes you cannot be bothered. I also think that dogs offer children a lot of experiences about life and death.
So that is my take on your question

Dog all they way. They actually pay attention to you and are a vary rewarding pet. they can do a variety of things with you and will overall just like to be your friend.

although cats are a good choice to if you live in an apartment it might be a better option because of space and you would not have to watch it 24/7 like you would a dog.

It is your decision because having a pet is both a time and financial commitment because a dog or cat can live 5-15 years so if you only want a pet for a year I would stick with fish.

Hey! I'm more of a cat girl as well :-D People often prefer the animal they had when they were growing up. My boyfriend grew up with dogs, and never really liked cats, until I talked him into getting a kitten 7 months ago.... now he loves cats! (Maybe just ours, though!)

Cats are great because:
They purr :-)
They meow, so cute
You can pick them up
They sniff the tip of your nose or lips to give you a 'kiss'
They are very curious when you take a shower!
They are loving - they are only aloof if you make them that way! (e.g. by letting them roam outside and just come back for food!)
They know when you are upset
They are cheeky, and like to play with things
They can entertain themselves
They can be left alone for a night or two, if needed
They are very clean
I could go on forever

Cats are bad because:
They sometimes scratch the furniture
They really don't know their name, they look at you even if you call them Bob

Dogs are good because:
They are sociable and energetic
You can play rough with them
They will lie next to you for hours
They lick you
You can train them more than you can train cats
They know their name... usually!
People come and talk to you if you sit with them in a beer garden
You can take them for walks

Dogs are bad because:
You HAVE to take them for walks!
You have to start spelling out the word W.A.L.K. when you don't want to take them for one...
Sometimes... they smell a bit!
They can be big and boisterous or small and yappy
They chase cats
Some bark soooo loudly!
You can't really leave them on their own for long while you go to work
You can't go away for a couple of nights and leave it at home
You need a garden to have one
You have to humiliate yourself in public by shouting the name, which you first thought was sweet, "SNUGGWUFFLE!! GET BACK HERE NOW!!"

Give me a cat any day :-D

I have 2 dogs and 2 cats. I love both of them differently! I can leave the cats for a few days with water and food and they are happy as clams! The dogs require much more attention but I love the loyalty they have with me!

I don't prefer one over the other because both dogs and cats have their pros and cons.

Dog can be great exercise companions....cats not so much.

Cats do their business without having to be let outside.

Dogs generally require a bit more maintenance-wise, but the rewards of such care are greatly rewarded.

Cats are independent and know when you need your space, as they enjoy theirs just as much. Dogs can be a bit pushy at times when you're simply not in the mood.

For me personally....well, when my dog is getting ready to yack, I'll call him and he'll go outside to barf. My cat, on the other hand, prefers to do it in secret. And can he contain it to one area? Oh no, one pile here, another there, another in that corner there....lol. One instance of vomit from my cat usually ends in at least 3 piles of vomit to clean up.

I'll quit rambling and get to the point; I likes 'em the same:)

Cats, always cats. I have a cat, my hubby has the dog, I am not a dog person at all. Had my cat since he was a kitten and he's loyal and loving, all the things people say about dogs, plus he has a litter box and cleans himself!

I prefer dogs, though I have 2 cats of my own. Cats are less hassle. They give you the attention and affection you want with out all the responsibility.
