I'm not wiccan, I'm pagan. We don't feel the need to go around proselytizing others to our belief as we accept all positive spiritual paths as valid. We have no mandate that forces us to shove our beliefs down the throats of others so we can pat ourselves on the back for "saving" them from eternal torment.
If someone asks a respectful question, we'll happily answer it. But, we don't need the numbers. We go for quality and not quantity in our spiritual lives.

I am not Wiccan, I am very proudly a witch. A persons faith is their own and they should not run about shoving it down other peoples throats! We are not out to convert anyone. If I want to know what someone believes I will ask them. And if someone asks me I will tell them. I am myself, I am not my religion. Religion should not matter. I do not feel the need to get up on a soapbox and shout "Hey everyone, I am a witch!" and then go on to tell them if they don't switch to what I believe bad things will happen to them (like Christians seem to love to do). Plus invariably some ignorant, close minded person will call me a Satan worshiper and condemn me to hell! Funny to think I would worship a being I do not believe exists. They know absolutely nothing about Wicca (or witchcraft) and have no intention of ever learning. Oh well, life goes on.

People are closed-minded about it for a number of different reasons.

Some of them hear the word "witch" and the door slams shut.

Others have only encountered the "fluffy bunny" Wiccans and think all Wiccans are equally dogmatic and childish.

Yet others simply think that any religion other than theirs is automatically evil, and that's the end of any discussion.

Likewise, there are various reasons why Wiccans don't go around knocking on people's doors or preaching on streetcorners.

One of them is the fact that for most Wiccans, religion is truly a private and personal matter: between oneself and the Gods, and not to be spoken of lightly.

Another is the maxim borrowed from the Rosicrucians that many Wiccans follow, and call the Witches Pyramid: "To will, to know, to dare, to keep silent."

Yet another is that many Wiccans believe that all religions are valid paths to the Divine -- therefore there is no driving need to prosyletize our faith above all others. If someone is meant to find their way to us, then they will; our Gods are fully capable of calling people to Their worship on Their own.

And some of us do come onto boards like this, or volunteer to speak with the media, in order to discuss our faith and dispel various misconceptions. We don't do it to preach or prosyletize. We do it because in order for people to become more familiar with and tolerant of our religion, public education is both desirable and necessary.

I hope that adequately answered your question. :-)

I used to never tell people about me being Wiccan because I thought that I would be an outcast and people would make fun of me, but now I am not afraid of that, I am very proud of being a Wiccan.

I'm closed minded in general, but I do know atleast something about the Wiccan faith: worship of Goddess, practice of benign witchcraft, it's wrong to harm someone (presumably with magic)....but that's really all I know.

and do you mean you want me to share? ok. I'm born again, I believe the mind is the most important aspect of human existance, only 2 ceremonies I attand (baptism and communion) because Jesus didn't command anything else, I believe only what (spiritually) I feel the Holy Spirit has led me to believe, I believe in preparation before battle (let God fix you before you try and fix anyone/anything), I believe the only way to God is through Jesus Christ (God the Son), I believe we can and should attain a relationship with God through Christ, etc.....

People are closed-minded about it because most are afraid of it. They have an idea in their heads about witches and spells and that kind of thing.

Not everyone feels the need to broadcast or force their faith on others. I'm sure if you ask politely, you'll get polite, informed answers.

Wicca is supposed to be a secretive religion...but of course very few of them want to keep it a secret. The idea is magic is supposed to be kept secret. But Wiccans don't really have magic, and most of them seem to do it for shock value anyway.

I don't think I've met anyone that hasn't heard of Wicca.
