i am trying to ignore him and i told people i don't like him anymore. and he keeps talking about me to his friends(his friends told me) and he says hes trying to be nicer to me. but it's not working

Let the girls know you don't like him anymore. That'll hurt his ego. He's hurting you...why not hurt him back. You deserve better.

If he's trying to make you jealous, then most likely he doesn't like you. He's just trying to exploit the fact you like him to gain power over you. If that's the case he would not make a desirable boyfriend.
If he really did like you, he would probably just come up and say "I was an idiot when I said I didn't like you. Having thought about it, I realise that I do like you after all."
Of course it may be that he likes you but just has no idea about how to behave in a romantic context. If you think that might be the case then talk to him and get him to explain his behaviour. If he says he was trying to make you jealous because he likes you, then tell him that was a stupid thing to do and he should have just told you, but you forgive him just this once.
Playing psychological games like provoking jealousy is a bad sign, so you should be wary whatever happens.

How do you even know that he is trying to make you jealous? Did he tell you so...? Maybe he is asking his friend because he wants to make sure that you don't like him anymore.
I feel that you are reading this situation wrong....

its a guy thing...they dont want you but they love the booty call from you and thats just bein an asswipe so.....find a guy wholl respect you and love you for who you are...guys play games,just like us, but we dont get over it easily...
