It suggests to me that having first hand experience of the conditions / factors surrounding your cause, gives you a better understanding of what needs to be done in order to deal with / solve the problems and issues involved in it. eg We can all contribute towards the fight for the issue of breast cancer. Where as someone who has survived the condition, will have first hand knowledge of what is involved in the fight, and what could possibly be done in order to improve treatment, medical care, information etc.Therefor armed, through their own experience, will be more able to lead people through their fight against the disease.

This means that in order to be a good leader, you have to believe 100% in the cause you are supporting. If you have any doubts, you will not be an effective leader.

to get on the same side as the people and understanding the cause. relating to your voters makes you seem more personable thus gaining their respect
