I just bought my daughter a male puppy yorkie terrier. What would be the best route to take in training him to use the bathroom on those little blue cloths? We are away from home the majority of the day so he goes to my neighbor with her dogs. I want him to be trained to go on the matt at night and outside during the day.

At 12 weeks he should be able to hold it through the night and for a full 8 hours in the daytime.
For the first while, make sure to watch him and when he starts sniffing around, pick him up right away and take him outside (or to the pee pad - I don't like pee pads because it's difficult to break that habbit once they get used to them).
When he does mess on your carpet make sure to use a special cleaner from your pet store that gets rid of the smell entirely or he will continue to go in the same spot on your carpet.
He's capable of being fully trained by 12 weeks though.

Get a little bell and put it by the door, ring it every time you're about to go outside. The dog will learn to ring the bell to let you know he wants outside.

A dog should be trained on how to eat, walk with you, not to bark, potty training and sleep on its place etc. You can teach anything to your puppy, dogs get trained easily with some good instructions. If you want some good training tips visit https://tr.im/s0crv

If properly trained, they should also understand whistle and gesture equivalents for all the relevant commands, e.g. short whistle or finger raised sit, long whistle or flat hand lay down, and so on.

It's important that they also get gestures and whistles as voice may not be sufficient over long distances and under certain circumstances.

OK little dogs are hard to train but its possible all you have to do is every 3 hours take her or him out side. Keep saying go potty it worked for my dog she knows what it means now just trust me try it.

Just take a potty pad outside with you and when he eliminates.. get a little on the pad and then place it in the house.
