well if her parents are abusive, definately don't tell them at all. tell your parents or a counselor at school or something and keep and eye on her to make sure she doesn't show any definate signs of suicide (such as not doing her work in school, saying goodbyes at the end of the day like its her last or being very emotional, and just 100% negitive). watch out for her and just be the best friend that you can. i went to the cutting myself thing too, i would do it with a razor but i talked to someone about it though, but i know from experience somebody needs to be with her to keep her safe. i hope everyhting works out the best, stay hopeful, and again tell someone asap hun! again, i wish you the best

Sit down and talk to her in private. She needs to understand that she is hurting herself (I have seen and read that most cutters do it as a release of inner pain...most of them are emotionally numb and do it to "feel something"), that she is a person of worth, that she is loved. See if she will agree to see the school counselor. Perhaps he/she can get her in contact with a professional that will help her.

How old is your friend? Do you know why she is doing this? Tell her parents, if you can't try talking to someone else about, maybe a teacher or someone you or close to. My parents put me in a hospital for cutting myself, and believe me when you are stuck in a hospital, you will want to live and you will want to enjoy life.

Get her hooked up with a teacher or counselor at school and stand by her no matter what happens.
