I think that I was allergic to lobster when I was younger, but I eat clams and that is a shellfish. I also eat oysters so could that mean that I am not allergic to shellfish?

I would think so, I am allergic to clams but not to any other shellfish. The best thing would be to schedule an appointment with a specialist for a scratch test (allergy test) for that you can find out in a controlled, medical setting.

It would be a very bad idea to find out on your own in case your allergy is not specific to lobster.

Perhaps get tested for a crab allergy as the meat is most similar to lobster

Food allergies are not something to mess with, because they often present worse each time. Yes, it IS possible, however if you decide try some lobster, go very small portions, and watch for symptoms, such as a rash, heavy feeling in the lungs, hives etc. GOOD LUCK!!

Maybe you had some bad lobster. I know a few people who have had that happen to them. I also know some people who are allergic to shellfish, by boss being one of them, and lobster is one of the things that he can't eat.

Try some and see... what's the worse that can happen? Your face might swell up. :-) It's not permanent. lol

clams and oysters are molluscs, lobster shrip and crab are shellfish. Don't confuse the two or you could give yourself alot of grief.
