marking his territory in the house? He is not neutered, would it help if he was?

Absolutely, have him neutered. Not only will this end the marking, but it will also calm him down, and make him more loving.

As an added benefit, you also will have virtually eliminated many of the health problems that male dogs face.......testicular cancer being the most severe.

Neutering your dog will not neccesarily stop him from marking his territory. My Chihuahua is neutered and he marks all the time! He is a rescue and has house breaking issues so what I did was put him in diapers. I highly recomend this to anyone! I don't know how big your dog is but mine is small. He wears newborn size Huggies. I just wrap one around his waist like a belly band. If you don't know about belly bands, they are plastic or vinyl wraps that go around a male dogs waist. They attatch with velcro. Most pet stores carry them. That is also an option for you. I don't like them for my dog because the elastic is too tight and bothers him. Plus it needs to be washed after each accident or you have to buy sanitary pads to put in them anyway. I prefer diapers because I can just throw them away. They make my life and his so much more stress free. I don't have to clean furniture all the time or scold him about it since I know he won't quit. They are also great when I take him to visit friends or public places, I know he won't really be peeing on other people's stuff.
Good luck!

He should not be doing that now, Do you walk him? Take him out for a walk first in the morning, and then afternoon. Is he marking or actually peeing. The difference is a little dribble, or a full flood. If he is marking, then where he marks put some hot chilli Mchinnys or something similar on it and a very little dab on his nose. He will soon loose interest in that game...If a proper pee then put a shhet of newspaper down on the pee so it is absorbed, leave a sheet down and as days go by move it slowly towards the outside door, And finally out the door. Take the paper away after a couple of days.

I don't think to neuter your dog is the best way. Since he is doing this you should try to get him to go to the washroom in a better place like a litter box :) He will get the hint that you don't want him to mark his territory in the house. You also can teach him how to warn you if he has to go to the bathroom!

Take him outside and walk the perimeter of your yard allowing him to mark it.. may take several times around.. he needs his horizons broadened. Make his territory larger. This could take a week before he realizes you are giving him *more*... also praise him everytime he lifts his leg to mark outdoors on the property line or fence.

Eventually you will see him run his *line* before he eliminates in the yard.. you will know your job was well done...

GOOD LUCK

It's never too late to neuter a dog but if you wait a while, he could have leaking problems which wouldn't really stop your problem. You can still train him and if that doesn't help, they sell spray's a pet stores that you can use to spray over areas and it works kind of like a propellant.

it might. when he does his thing tell him "no" firmly and take his outside. don't leave him outside because then he'll just learn not to do it in front of you and sneak off and do his business when you aren't looking. stay with him outside a little while. hopefully he'll pee outside and then you give him lots of praise
