My dad needs something, but thinks they will cost an arm and a leg. Instead he buys a surround sound speaker system for a tv he hardly ever watches. I tell him he needs hearing aids instead, so he can here real people and not just the tv. He said he thought they cost thousands of dollars. I didn't think they did. Do you know?

Wow, I thought they were maybe 500 - 800.
Yes, I'm in the US. And thought of recommending a chain store. Guess I'll recommend an audiologist. Thanks.

It depends where you are located. If you are in the U.S., you can probably get a decent hearing aid for $1000. The smaller it is, the more it will cost. Depending on your Dad's hearing loss, a digital hearing aid might not provide all that much added benefit compared to a programmable or analog hearing aid (which would be cheaper). You can get what is called a 'full-shell' which takes up most of the concha bowl (the area that leads into the ear canal). The thing is, he has to be committed to wearing it or else it will be a waste of money. Any reputable place will offer a 3 month trial. He will have to pay up front, but if he is not happy with it, he should be able to return it and get most if not all of his money back. Don't go to a place in the mall or a hearing aid 'chain'. It is best to go to a licensed audiologist.

Depends-how bad is his hearing?

Get him to a hearing air dealer. (Check yellow pages)

1 1/2 years ago, I got some for my dad, spent 1800.00, but his hearing was very, very bad.

Is he over 65? If so, medicare might help.

Check this web sire.
